Saw it this afternoon, wasn't really that impressed with it. There doesn't seem to be any rational explanation as to why characters from a time period set several thousands of years after the Classic series are there. I would also kinda expect a bit more from a crossover, but eh, I suppose some people'll enjoy it. I'd kill for someone to do a Megaman Classic fangame using the engine from 7. Seriously, that was the best game in the series. |

Sorry, but between bad sprites, bad designs, and meaningless crossover... Yeah, nah. |

I fail at embedding again. But just... What the heck? Note sure if want. Edit: Okay, looking at the comments seems to suggest that Capcom's promoting a fan game rather than making something themselves. Edited by Aroxys, Dec 9 2012, 01:52 AM.

This seems to me like an astoundingly cheap ploy to regain some positive Megaman publicity, as if they just plainly can't be fucked to make a game by themselves anymore. This is a franchise's Event Horizon in progess, folks, and Capcom is trying ever so desperately to hide it. But hey, it's free so at least they're not making any money off it. If anything, they're losing money because they publicised and funded it. |

Capcom trying to curry favour with a fanbase that has been betrayed by them for the last time? They've gone so low that they're trying to market a fangame as their own work, just because they "support" it? Oh man, this is just too good. |

Still can't argue with "fangame" and "free". Since fans are making it, they can't really fuck it up like Crapcom can. |

And apparently, Crapcom's mouthpiece wants to talk Megaman on the 17th. 10 bucks says it's nothing more than: "I swear we're thinking of you guys and we've got some good shit in store for you, like more cellphone game and maybe a Megamanville app for Facebook. Isn't that what you all wanted? Guys? Guys?" *mauled by fanbase* |

I'm pretty skeptical myself, and probably won't be satisfied unless we're seeing Rockman Online or Megaman Legends 3 put back on the table. |

Hey, Capcom. Seriously. Instead of holding the franchise hostage by convincing people its fate relies heavily on a game nobody asked for, how about... oh I dunno... you make a game people actually do give a shit about? This isn't fucking fair, guys. |

In all honesty, the only people going crazy over this are the die hard fans who just embrace any piece of Megaman memorabilia that gets tossed their way. I'm burned out on all these mediocre 8-bit Megaman fangames, it's going to take a lot more than pandering to nostalgia to get me interested in the franchise again. |

"We're sorry, but we are left with no choice but to retire the Megaman franchise due to the lack of fan interest in Street Fighter X Megaman." I swear, I'm a fucking time traveller. I'm still interested in SFxM, though, if for no other reasons than that it's free and, being a fangame, it won't be subject to Crapcom's DLC bullshit. |

I keep hearing it's official because it was "backed" by Capcom. This means it could well end up turning into some cash cow. |

You know, it's shite like this that makes me think that the only reason the Blue Bomber went on for as long as he did was because Inafune was in charge of him, and even then Crapcom was more into whoring the franchise out than anything else. I honestly think they still want to whore the franchise out, but with Inafune gone they aren't willing to adhere to any sort of standard and we can see just how bad these guys are. (AKA, why 8-bit Megaman came out every year with little innovation, why X6-8 exist, why MMZ4 was so different from the first three, ect.) That being said, I doubt Crapcom's going to pull the plug on Megaman completely. The Blue Bomber's practically a mascot and still has fans, but the company isn't willing to put the effort in to make something that would honestly appeal to anyone. If they did, they wouldn't have cancelled Rockman Online. That game had a HUGE gateway potential to introduce a new generation to Megaman while appealing to the older fans. But no, Crapcom's just going to keep 'testing the waters' with half-assed games, apps, and fangames while genuinely wondering why they're not generating the appeal they used to. They won't pull the plug on Megaman for a long time I think. Not until there is absolutely no interest in the Blue Bomber anymore and everyone's forgotten about him. Bonus points if Megaman gets into the next SSB, pleases the fans, and Crapcom still claims there's not enough interest in a new game because people are throwing money at the big N and not them. |

I think you're thinking of Rockman Universe because, as far as I know, Online is still alive and kicking (exclusively to Korea of course, like all good Korean MMOs, we just get the shit). Either way, you know what? At this point I'd settle for something as radical as a gritty reboot like Bomberman Zero did. As screwed up as that was, at least it was something different. I'm not really sure how much influence Inafune had really, people like to elevate him to godlike status just because his name's the most prominent one on the box. Let's face the reality, Megaman was cheap to produce, or rather, REproduce since very little innovation was shown between each entry in each individual series. The only time innovation happened was when they'd jump to another series and even then, that'd go on for a while. It's fine, if a formula works, then don't screw with it, but things will get repititive, though Megaman fans seem to be okay with spending an eternity stuck with 8-bit games set in the Classic timeline, much similarly to how Sonic fans always bitch about wanting more S3&K rehashes. I've said it a million times before; Megaman fans are crazier than Sonic fans. While I've enjoyed most entries of this franchise (yes, even the Pokemon cash cows that are Battle Network and Star Force), I can see that it's more than just Capcom's executive meddling that's killed the franchise; it's the fact that the franchise has failed to evolve within the past...I dunno, maybe a decade now? I personally have no problem seeing a new Megaman X, or ZX or whatever, but I'm pretty sure that Legends 3 and possibly Universe were exactly the breath of fresh air the franchise desperately needed as, both, a way to maintain a legacy, as well as introducing the franchise to newer fans. It's really a damn shame that Capcom refuses to have any foresight about how to handle this and is just content with mooching off of other people's success with this new fangame that, as BL said, no one really asked for. In all honesty, getting a cease and dessist would've been a much more desired response, all things considered. |
