So with the shift to Year Two, The Taken King and Update 2.0.0, there have been a lot of changes, big and small. I just wanted to quickly cover a few of the smaller changes I've noticed. -Firstly, the House of Wolves. Update 2.0.0 removed all of the various groups you could find across Earth, the Moon and Venus. I've only seen the Wolf Scavengers since, the ones that guard the entrance to the Shrine of Oryx. The rest of them? Gone. Including the jerkass Queenbreaker Captain that lurks in the corner of Dock 13 and will chase you down the absolute moment you walk in there. Hope you got all of the "Fallen Hunted" Grimoire Cards. -Of course, with that, there's a bunch of them hiding on Mars now, as part of the "Wolves of Mars" quest. Completing it nets you an Exotic Scout Rifle with an initial Attack value of 290, as noted by Enzan. -The change to a universal Quest system has also changed the Expansions, including the weapons you get from the vanilla story and Dark Below. The Stranger's Rifle is now a level 14 Legendary weapon that can be Ascended for 25 Legendary Marks. Ascending it restores it to level 16, so be wary. -The Dark Below now starts at level 10, with the Sword of Crota mission being shifted to the respective quest line. It's also been chopped in half, ending upon defeating Omnigul in the Will of Crota strike and obtaining Murmur, which is now a level 10 Legendary Fusion Rifle, that can also be ascended for just 25 Legendary marks (it'll be promptly be returned to requiring a level 20 character to use upon ascension, so yea, watch out). The second half of the quest, where you needed to collect the ashes of slain Hive in the Urn of Sacrifice? Gone. Hope you got the respective Grimoire cards. -The related Exalted Hive that lurk on Earth are now paperweights and have no importance at all (though you should still be able to get their cards if you don't have them, so yay?) Urzok, the Hated is still immensely annoying though. Especially when his instance ends and the Taken drop in immediately afterwards. -Back to House of Wolves: the main questline starts at level 12 or something, with the mission on Venus that sics you on Draksis, Winter's Kell, now falling under that quest. Everything else is largely unchanged, I believe. I think that's everything I noticed. Bungie really likes removing content from this game. Edited by Luffy Foxtrot, Sep 27 2015, 05:00 AM.

So, Good Game gave their full review of The Taken King this past Tuesday and while Hex is still thoroughly confused by the story of the game, she, along with Bajo, both agree that this is a major improvement over what the game was in Year One. For comparison, I'm also gonna link their initial videos from last year. Which includes their first impression from the Alpha test on top of the actual review. Pardon the difference in review scores between the two reviews; as I (kinda sorta) mentioned in the actual GG topic (in which I'll be shoving some other videos in a moment) they shifted from an X/10 system to a five star system earlier this year. |

Assuming someone actually missed the news, Destiny also has a Halloween event in progress, called the Festival of the Lost. Do things with masks, get more masks and if you care enough to actually shell out real world money, you'll be able to keep the masks you like. How about that? That's probably where I have the most issue with this event. Besides the one Legendary mask you're guaranteed at the start, every other mask you obtain during the course of the event is of Rare quality and, as a result, will be auomatically deleted from your collection when the event ends on November 9. If you want to keep any of those masks for funtimes (like in the Crucible where gear doesn't really matter) you're gonna need to buy some Silver to get items from the cash shop, which guarantees one Legendary mask and has a chance to drop a multitude of other things. Like Paper Glue, which is what you need to upgrade those masks. There are also three new premium emotes, which are only purchaseable for the length of the event, but remain in your possession permanently if you buy them. One of which is a dance emote based off of Michael Jackson's Thriller. I complain about this, but as I have no sense of restraint, I've already managed to Legendify nine of the 16 masks (there appears to be at least 17 if you play on PlayStation, though) and I'm probably gonna spend more come the weekend. It'd be nicer if there was at least a small chance of getting Paper Glue from normal event activities. But then again, this is Activision we're talking about. |

Are they asking for a lot to do that? It's incredibly stupid that they're doing this but, at the very least, if it's tiny amounts of money, then it'd be more bearable. |

It's 200 Silver for one premium box thing. Which is somewhere under $7 AUD. So not entirely painful if you don't intend to collect all of the masks. The masks are also entirely subjected to RNG, so it's entirely possible to get duplicates. Legendary masks can be dismantled into Paper Glue for upgrading, while Rare masks dismantle into 2 pieces of Scrap Paper, which can be traded for another random Rare mask. So if it is possible to get Legendary masks without spending Silver, I've yet to see it. |

Wow, that is the absolute lowest level of shame imaginable. It almost feels like Activision won't stop sinking until they eventually hit Dungeon Keeper Mobile levels. |

Patch 2.2.0 for Destiny, otherwise known as the April Update, was released a few days ago and brought a bunch of changes and some new things to boot. Unfortunately the "new stuff" is mostly just old stuff refreshed a bit. And there isn't even much there in the first place, which doesn't make up for the massive content gap since The Taken King first released. That said, the April Update was only ever considered a hold over to keep people at least somewhat happy as the dev team continues to work on the expansion coming in the Fall. So! What's in the package? The patch notes are there, but still: -First thing to note, light cap 335, Weekly Nightfall Strike now recommends you have an average of 320. Have fun. -The Prison of Elders (an arena challenge initially added in Expansion II: The House of Wolves) got two new additions; a level 41 matchmaking challenge that'll either give you stronger versions of the enemies in the original level 28 challenge, or a new Taken infested version. The Level 41 arena functions as a playlist, so you'll continue to be thrust into new instances unless you manually return to orbit before the timer expires. -The Challenge of the Elders is the second part of the new PoE content, a level 42, recommended light 320, non-matchmade instance that throws high level enemies at you with a bunch of modifiers that last the entire instance, rather than just a single round. It is here that you can earn TTK-tier exotic weapons that were initially released in EXII. These exotics can't be obtained from the Exotic Weapon Blueprint board if you have the year one version, unlike other exotics. -Items that have been previously associated with the PoE: Treasure Keys, Tokens of Flight, Identity and Judgement, as well as the various Cores are now completely useless in those respects. Eat them for House of Judgement rep instead. Keys give +50 and one can be obtained every week for completing a single Taken Hunt bounty from Petra Venj (this is an old thing, worth mentioning again). -Two new strikes have been added, Blighted Chalice and a Taken version of Winter's Run. Blighted Chalice is unlocked as part of a new main story quest obtained from Variks, while Winter's Run (Taken) is only available from the Strike Playlists that feature Taken strikes. -Some new gear has been added, too. Spektar and Desolate gear is obtained from opening new Sterling Treasure boxes. Everyone is able to obtain three free treasure boxes a week, one from the postmaster, one from completion of the Level 41 PoE challenge and one from completing a match in the Weekly Featured Crucible Activity (which usually applies modifiers to existing gametypes, like Mayhem, which significantly increase Subclass Ability charge rates). Any more Sterling Treasures can be purchased from Eververse for 200 Silver (the premium currency of Destiny). As Eververse products are supposed to be vanity only, any armour obtained from Sterling Treasures (even the free ones) will start off with only 3 defense. On the other end, gear infusion is now calculated at a 1:1 ratio. Initially, if you attempted to infuse gear that had too high a gap between the two items, the item that would be powered up would lose out on a few points. So you had to infuse in short bursts (200 -> 215 for example) to ensure the gear would actually power up properly. That is no longer the case, and now you can send the new gear from 3 defense to 320 defense or higher (up to the cap of 335) instantly if you like it that much. -Existing content has had an adjustment to drops. Encrypted (Blue/Rare) and Legendary Engrams will now decode up to a maximum of 310, with Legendary and Exotic Engrams more likely to decode at a value higher than your average Light Score. Exotic Engrams will cap at 335. There's a helluva lot of shit. Variks wants me to poke the Challenge of the Elders. Hah hah, good luck with that. Edited by Luffy Foxtrot, Apr 16 2016, 03:12 PM.

A week or so ago, some Destiny content was leaked, which appears to confirm that the next expansion is called "Rise of Iron." Kotaku has claimed that two individual anonymous sources say that this is legit. Bungie, to this date has not confirmed, denied, or even acknowledged these leaks, which probably implies that, yes, it is real. What we seem to know so far, from these same sources, is that there's a new raid that'll have you fighting the Fallen. I'm betting the House of Kings are finally making a move, as besides a single mission in the House of Wolves expansion, they've done absolutely nothing and have just lurked in their side of the Cosmodrome. Initially this raid was said to have been planned for the April Update and was also initially planned for the House of Wolves explansion, but sources again said that particular raid was scrapped in its entirety and a new one was designed, leaving the April Update (and, naturally, the HoW expansion) with the Prison of Elders. That note about the raid lends some credence to it being about the House of Kings, as the originally planned Raid would've focused on Skolas and the House of Wolves. Story-wise, at least. ![]() The promotional poster also seems to imply that the Iron Lords and/or Iron Wolves (likely the latter, given the actual wolves gathered around Lord Saladin) will be involved somehow. And we might get a flaming axe as a new heavy weapon. So much speculation. We'll know more at E3, I imagine, when it gets revealed at Sony's E3 presser. Because you just know there'll be PS-exclusive content in this thing, too. |
