Denis Dyack and the team over at Silicon Knights have just received a strange court order, demanding that all games using the Unreal 3 code they’re guilty of plagiarizing must be destroyed. Yes, any games unsold must be recalled on Silicon Knights’ dime and destroyed. Collector’s who are missing any of the listed games below might want to go pick them up while they still can.

Too Human
X-Men: Destiny
The Sandman
The Box/Ritualist
Siren in the Maelstrom

This news comes as a result of their lost to Epic Games over the use of their code in Too Human, costing $4.45 million in damages and well, now this. Since it is rumored that the studio is now just five people, this could be the motion that does Silicon Knights in for good. Whether it was due to the game’s lengthy development or Dyack’s arrogance, Too Human was not well received and has become a point of contention in both the legal battle and reputation of Silicon Knights. Also, X-Men: Destiny is a piece of shit.

Probably the final nail in Silicon Knights' coffin.

The only game in that list that I was vaguely interested in was either Too Human, X-Men Destiny, or both. General consensus is that they're so horrid that I can't be fucked any more. Also, I probably wouldn't be able to find either of them.

I can find X-Men: Destiny easily around here on any of the three consoles it was released on but, like the general concensus says, it's absolute garbage. Too Human was a very ambitious project that fell flat on it's face because the devs really had no foresight. Meanwhile, the good shit they made like Eternal Darkness and Legacy of Kain are still in the hands of competent publishers, so they're safe from whatever happened to get those games axed.

I actually have a copy of Too Human myself, and yes, it's complete and utter garbage. It's not quite Stormrise bad per se, but it got pretty damn close at times. Enemies that can only be melee'd to be killed but give you incurable HP drains when you melee them, gun targeting system that has absolutely no sense of priority whatsoever (which is a massive fucking shame considering they were trying to allow independant aiming with two pistols), completely nonsensical methods for defeating things (a ground-based shockwave can't be avoided by jumping, but rolling straight into it is perfectly okay? What the fuck kind of sense does that make?), oh and let's not forget the completely unskippable 10-15 second cutscene that happens every single fucking time you die before you respawn a few mere feet away with no other consequences whatsoever. I honestly wouldn't say foresight was the problem so much as a complete lack of simple common sense - they threw shit in for the simple reason that nobody else does it, and made a lot of mistakes that very basic principles of game design should've picked up.

The fact that it ends on a cliffhanger and blatant sequel hook is the cherry on the cake - a completion of the circle of failure, if you will. Funny thing is, the game had such a ridiculous amount of artificial padding to extend its length that I'm convinced they could've done their entire story (they planned to do a fucking trilogy, if I'm not mistaken) in this one game had they cut it all. Oh well, if this increases the game's value to collectors then at least I'll be able to make a pretty penny off it if I never have the urge to play it again.

Does Ninty really still own the rights to Eternal Darkness? Because the fact they've done nothing with it for the entirety of this console gen and still don't have any apparent plans for the next one is kind of troubling.

As I recall, they renewed the trademark somewhere back in 2010 I think, along with Luigi's Mansion, so I believe that they hold some ownership over the name. The fact that this news popped up recently means that they had intended to release this game at some point, but canned it. Whether this problem came from Nintendo or Silicon Knights is debatable, but honestly, with the quality of work SK has been bleeding out for years, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo believed that they no longer had it in them to continue development.
