Konami still thinking it can survive only off of MGS and shitty Silent Hill sequels. We'll see just how well this looks later on. |

Its MGS games have always been good, and they're still coming out with ZoE HD and Castlevania of Illusion. A good rule of thumb with Konami is: if it isn't Silent Hill, it deserves a chance. Otherwise, not even Amanda Winn Lee can salvage it. :I |

I'm trying really hard to appreciate the concept, but the more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that this goes against pretty much everything I've come to expect of a MGS game. Whenever I think of a MGS environment, it's something constructed in a very formulaic and deliberate manner, exploitable to absolutely ridiculous degrees when it comes to stealthing and takedown opportunities whilst ensuring the AI isn't necessarily completely blind to every possibility - I mean hell, they even followed standard breaching procedure in MGS2 when they cornered you in a dead end room, for fuck's sake. When there's talk of an open-ended environment big enough to drive a car through, much less a fucking helicopter, I just can't see that happening - all I can imagine is broad, bland slopes with maybe some tall grass in some of them. Will it even be a stealth game anymore by that point? Or simply Just Cause 2 with a massive tone-down? Kinda makes me sad to think sometimes that nobody makes Thief games anymore. Oh well. No, MGS has been going downhill since Solid 2 and it's been milked to death. The only reason Revengeance is good is because it's a change of pace and it's being handled by a competent studio. |

I would hardly call four main title games plus two, maybe three, side-games milking. Also, here's a bit of the game in action. Liking what I'm seeing so far... |

Try 5 side-games and a multitude of re-releases and compilations. If this was Capcom, I'd think we were talking about Resident Evil. So, 9 minutes of cutscene and less than a minute of gameplay, followed by credits. If Kojima wasn't taking notes from Square's advertising department, then he must be now. But it's like I've been saying for years, the man knows enough about cinematography to be at the point where he should be making movies, not games. His games are essentially movies with a handful of segments where you take control and, if this trailer is any indication of the direction he's taking with the game, then it's just more of the same. I'll also have to agree with BL, having an open world stealth based game sounds a bit too contradictory. It was probably one of the reasons I didn't like Snake Eater, because it was way too open and it was difficult to know where you could go and where you couldn't. Aside from that, it seemed like there was too much to do and at the end of the day, it serves more to confuse the player and let them feel like they'd probably have an easier time just going in guns blazing instead of wasting time on stealth. That's the problem with the series as a whole; it's neglecting one of it's key gameplay aspects in favour of visual presentation and a movie-like experience. I hate to say this but, Splinter Cell is a far superior stealth based game because of how it constantly enforces the point during gameplay. |
