Okay, what. Now they're adding in something like Media Achievements? This has gone so far into 'sad' territory that it can't double back and become funny again without some serious effort. |

I was referring to Backwards Compatibility. Haven't we already known about those media achievements? Or am I thinking about that time back at E3 when Ubisoft honest to god tried making out playing TV shows like games was even remotely a good idea? |

Speaking of the voice command shit, I'm finding myself getting increasingly irritated at Microsoft. The 360's management of voice control was way shitty. But now, rather than having to go "Xbox, apps. My apps. Crunchyroll." It'll just be as simple as "Xbox, go to Crunchyroll." And the app will launch. Seriously, that's fucking epic. You're no longer limited to only what's immediately onscreen. And I'm excited as shit for all that. And yet, that's why I'm so pissed at MS. They're touting all these awesome features and half the world won't even be able to use them at launch. Including Australia. Man, fuck you, Microsoft. |

I don't think so. We knew there would be a day one patch to enable offline play. But I don't recall it being previously mentioned that the console won't be able to play any games period without the same patch. I may have forgotten otherwise, though. |

I'm pretty sure it was already established that the old DRM was still on the boxes by the time they started making retail models, necessitating the day one patch because they didn't have the time to recall them (and fuck, why would they? It's not like they've done any other elements of the OS on time). If we recall right, said DRM involved being unable to play games offline if you failed to check in within 24 hours, so frankly it's not that far off the mark. In other "Xbone is a fuckup" news, do NOT connect online if for some reason you decided to buy an Xbone that had broken release date, or had one delivered before they released in stores. Microsoft has been banning people from XBL for doing so, despite being completely legal purchases.

I think it's best if Microsoft just bowed out of the console market after this. They clearly no longer have a grasp on handle this thing. |

Although it probably doesn't excuse Microsoft anyway, it's not a permanent ban and said ban only applies to Xbox One consoles that are connected to the service before release day. It's all there on the article (I'm guessing it was updated after you posted it,) but it's worth clarifying that the restrictions/bans will be revoked once the consoles officially launch. Microsoft's reasoning being that the online service is not yet finalised and stuff. And hey, since it only keeps them off of Xbox Live and that one guy has seemingly already downloaded the patch, all he really has to do is keep it from connecting and he can still use it to play games early. Right? |

From a business perspective (given that some deals aren't public/complete yet), Microsoft isn't at fault here and neither is Moonlight when I think of it. Target shipped out some units (way) early and before it's actually ready for sale. Moonlight is able to play the games offline for now and his video of CoD Ghosts will be back up on Youtube before the system launches (supposedly). Also, he was invited to the launch event which is most likely something amazing to attend even if you weren't a fan of the console. Here's a pretty good summary of what happened. While a ban may seem a little alarming, it's only on the console itself (not the gamertag) and will be reverted anyway. This is hardly something for people to get pissed about in all honestly. |
