Looks like I'm back in the line up for the One. The DRM was the last major obstacle for me. I still plan to use it mainly for games. Ironically, its the Wii U that is being used for other entertainment beyond gaming at my place.

That being said, I still plan to wait at least two years after launch.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

Still not going to touch the console, but it looks like they're finally having to face the reality that they really can't get away with even half the shit they were trying to pull. Though I'm still going to keep an eye out for any sort of 'of by the way' type of thing where they try to gradually re-introduce this stuff.

My opinion hasn't changed. Sure that's better, but there's still so many other problems going for it. So many developers have already migrated over to PS4 given the news.

Oh Enzan I agree with you so much, but the server thing isn't the only mechanism that was in place for that was it? (On mobile, sorry for the shortness)

It was one of the main parts that made it possible I believe.

In the old system:

Gamer A owns Game, is friends/family/whatever with Gamer B.

Gamer A has checked in in the last 24 hours, Gamer B is able to play the game remotely because the server knows Gamer A still owns and has that game.

With out the check, there is no way for the system to verify Gamer A still has the game besides honor system or the legit disk in tray. A case could be made for digital only copies of the game, which I see them actually doing a year or so after launch.

Also I'm pretty sure I said "Hey guys, let's see what happens" with all this way back when.

That's one reason why I'm waiting two years. Another reason should be fairly obvious.

So apparently there were people who liked what Microsoft was trying to shove down our throats.

Honestly, this just speaks for itself. I'm actually in the same boat as BL was not too long ago about literally having nothing left to say because this is just so exasperating.

Okay, a Playstation-alligned website is biased... but this is still amusing to listen to.

So instead of being outright cancerous, the Xbone's just plain mediocre now. Alright then.

Definently going to have to second Sandie too, this feels like a really hollow gesture and forgiveness will definently not come easily. One does not point a gun at the head of the industry and think it no longer means anything if they put it back away again.

EDIT: Removing DRM requires day one patch. So let me get this straight... you need to connect to the internet... to be capable of playing the console without being connected to the internet.

The comments are fucking hilarious.

Also, thirding Sandie and adding that they could just as easily bring this shit back as they took it away. They could creepily lie in wait for enough people to buy XBoners and then, spring the trap on them. Sony wasn't about removing key features that people bought the console for much later on during its lifecycle, Microsoft wouldn't be above doing anything sleazier than them.

I doubt they would risk a second backlash in a generation.

Also yeah, not a fan of the day one patch, but machines are probably already being built and boxed so it's too late to just apply it to stock.

I'd be in the factory booting everyone my self to load the patch, but I like consumers.

Another Always-Oner

You know what, I do have to agree that the fact we now still have to rely on disks sucks. Would it have cost more and been a bit of a hassle? Yes.

Would it have also been damn near impossible in many markets that DON'T have a decent internet infrastructure as well as add internet costs as a requirement to play single player games? Yes.

Checks and balances say...it was better to wait til the innovation could be better done, maybe once a week check ins or what they talked about doing with Azure (Whenever a gamestop/registered retailer would scan a game in to be sold, all digital copies online would become void) instead of it being checked on the console.

I still strongly believe digital only copies of games will be able to be lended out within 2 years of the XBONE's release.

A lot of people over at SSMB are thinking the same thing, incidentally. Some think Microsoft will be more subtle about it than others (ie: sneaking bullshit in one facet at a time as opposed to a sudden bomb of DRM), but few deny that they'll try again later either way, and even fewer deny that the possibility for it is definently there.

If you can patch it you can unpatch it.
