Well, yea, they did announce a partnership with NFL, but the thing with the link BL posted is that Microsoft spent four hundred million fucking dollars on said partnership. Said partnership will only benefit a fraction of their entire global audience. That's the key. We're not trying to take your spotlight, mang, we're just trying to rip on Microsoft whatever chance we get, given the topic we're in :3 |

So, I'mma double post here. We cool? Good. This sounds... interesting. Retailers like GameStop will not be allowed to offer trade-ins, or even sell pre-owned copies, of Xbox One discs unless they agree to Microsoft's terms and integrate Microsoft's Azure cloud-based pre-owned system into their own software. If they agree, consumers can hand in the games they no longer want, with a scan then checking the game as "traded in" on Microsoft's servers. The consumer who traded the game in will no longer be able to play it on their account, as their access code (or whatever) will be wiped from said account the next time their console "checks in." This checking in, as I believe has been previously noted, will need to happen once every 24 hours. I don't think we're certain if this is fully confirmed though. The checking in, I mean. If it's true, I assume the console will end up locking itself down completely until it can connect to the Internet and access Microsoft's servers. That's the only way Microsoft will be able to make it work. But I'm getting distracted. The retailer will then be able to sell the pre-owned game for whatever price they like, but supposedly a minimum of 35 british pounds, to cover game activation on the new owner's account or some shit. Either that, or the 35 pounds will be the cost to activate it on top of the pre-ownced price. So... all good, right? NOPE. On top of all this, Microsoft (and the publisher/developer involved with the particular game) will recieve a cut percentage of the money made from the pre-owned sale. This will happen automatically through the Azure software. The retailer will keep whatever's left over. Supposedly only 10% of the total sale. If the 35 pound figure is the full price, as MCV would like to believe, that'd leave GameStop (as an example) with about 3.50 per pre-owned sale. Basically, give Microsoft money, or no selling used copies of Xbox One games. Edited by Luffy Foxtrot, May 24 2013, 03:38 PM.

I knew it, I fucking knew it. It's all basically a goddamned scam so that Microsoft can make money off titles they had absolutely no hand in funding or making. That's the lowest form of slimy imaginable for any console developer, and I'm fucking shocked that it came from Microsoft before even EA ever sank that low. I don't trust many retailers to have that kind of dignity, but I'm seriously hoping a fair few of them have a platform-wide boycott in mind. This is something they expect to make a ludicrous amount of money off, to hell with what the consumers think, so the only way they're going to realize how badly they've fucked this up is if it hits them in their wallets, hard. |

This will probably mean that retailers will sell games at exorbitant amounts just to cover their own costs and make a decent profit for themselves, if they agree to this at all. I think the more lucrative option is to just bypass Microsoft altogether and not bother stocking their games at all. Let's see who ends up losing more money there, especially considering more and more retailers are embracing the used game market, after Gamestop made so much money out of it. |

As I said before, there is legal precedent to keep used games at a lower price than new games (at least here in the US) so price gouging won't occur. Honestly I like this system a hell of a lot more than the "Let the Market Decide" method that gamestop has (IE: We pay you one dollar then charge one dollar less than new), and puts the money firmly where it belongs, in the hands of the publishers. For gamers, those that trade in games probably won't see a big difference in how the system affects the cost and benefit of trading in games to buy new ones, this mainly effects retailers that have been gouging us already! This, coupled with the marketplace announced for digital user to user sales, means an easier used game experience. My only nitpick: That 35 currency here fee, I hope that doesn't stand for the entire life of the game. As for the NFL: They probably had that money earmarked for entertainment as is, NFL asked and they feel it's a big enough draw. Honestly, in the US that is almost worth it. I can definitely see why overseas would be pissed at it, hopefully they get a big league (UEFA?) for EMEA. EDIT: GET YOUR BOX ART HERE. Edited by Sonia Chaud, May 24 2013, 05:04 PM.

I saw that boxart style up on the EB Games website for Wolfenstein: The New Order and I think CoD Ghosts (both appeared long before the Forza 5 boxart/page popped up). I thought it was just a lame mock up, but I guess not. Booooooooo. And I almost forgot: RUMBLING TRIGGER BUTTONS!!!!! :D |

Luffy had this earlier, didn't see the 50 dollar remark in either article, if that's a flat conversion of 35 pounds to dollars the economy is further in the toilet than I thought. Well now. It IS in the toilet Edited by Sonia Chaud, May 24 2013, 08:08 PM.
