I'll just dismantle your strawman argument right there by saying "no, but precedent isn't excused when it's a fucking shit precedent".

Incidentally, I think we're in need of a thread title change, Psych.

Then don't present it that way. Tooting the Microsoft horn when Sony, Apple and maybe even Nintendo do the same thing. It's picking at straws.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

The fuck? I didn't even hint at any of Microsoft's competitors. All I said was that their applause was faked, and that's stupid no matter who you choose to compare it to or how many words you insist on putting in my mouth.

If anything I should be calling you out for trying to turn this into a contest of the lesser of three evils. Nobody here wants a fanboy war, and nobody here but you is trying to stir one up.

So I'm a fanboy for pointing out a fallacy? That's like calling me a Democrat for pointing out Republican hypocrisy.

No one is arguing that it's crap; the only thing I had a problem with is presenting it like Microsoft is the one to poke at right now.

Microsoft "is the one to poke at" right now, because right now there's nobody else to poke at. The PS4 has already been revealed, the WiiU is squandering a headstart of about 6 months to a year, and honestly nothing has really changed anywhere else in the PC and mobile fronts that could possibly generate this kind of news. Not to mention this is an Xbox thread, and I think it's only fair that Microsoft get called out for their bullshit in their own thread.

Also, just because other people may engage in the same bullshit doesn't make it a "fallacy" to call one out for it over the other, at least while this isn't the time or place to do so for anyone other than Microsoft. Feel free to do the same for Sony in the PS4 thread if you find a good opportunity to. I'd love to hear again about their 2006 PS3 reveal with pre-rendered "gameplay" footage sometime, that was good fun.

Indie devs can't self-publish on the Xbone - only way to get on the platform is through a publishing deal with Microsoft or a third party.

Welp, I guess Microsoft doesn't want my money anymore.

Drop it. Both of you.

I'll hold final judgement on the used games situation when we get a clear answer from MS (because I'm not quite sure they're certain themselves). I don't like the fee idea. I don't like locking out other users on consoles (although I read that all accounts on a console will have access to gold via one subscription).

Also, it looks like an Xbox CDi, but I like the design.

I think we'll get more on the games side at E3, but I'd really really like to see them TRY to get backwards compatibility (Yes Arem I read your post on architecture, I thought it was the same thing, doesn't mean I like it any more)

Other tidbits: All your 360 media besides games will transfer to One at this point.

ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAA COMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Current Purchasing Decision: Neither at the moment until I hear about used games, any kind of hope for backwards compatibility, and more gaming news. So once again. E3 matters. Somehow.

EDIT (since BL was posting while I was posting): I've bought like...3 indie games total. The tools kinda sucked. That and there is some conflict on the Indie Games debate, a Google search shows a bunch of articles in the last 11 hours that go both ways.

Just fyi, the last time Killer Instinct was brought up it was said to be a Kinect title. To say nothing of the fact that Rare is basically a hollow shell now and all the people who really mattered left ages ago. Anyway...

Quick google search gogo. BC is almost certaintly a no show, and the last time that even remotely seemed otherwise, their solution was literally to buy a brand new digital-only 360 and plug it straight into the Xbone anyway, so this is kind of preferable to be honest. Used games are technically allowed, but not only does Microsoft hold the freakin' monopoly on it by only allowing the sale of game liscences through their service, you can't buy preowned for less than the original retail price anyway, which essentially defeats the point.

So I guess that just leaves games then? I kinda doubt even with their good third party relations they'll have enough to make people forget about all that, but one way or another their E3 should bring in some good watching, for better or worse.

A man can dream.

Games are tied to accounts. You go to your friends and log in, ya'll can play, not there: PAY.

(I think Arem posted this earlier, but I couldn't pull it up, so I'm not ignoring you I"m just taking a shortcut)

As long as the fee isn't insanely high and unlocks all the features...I kinda like it. It works better than project Ten Dollar. Again, have to see it in practice

Uhh... yeah, about that.

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison said.

I should probably stop visiting this thread, the reveal's gone from astonishingly hilarious to incredibly depressing all in the space of one day.

Oh I saw that, I'm hoping it's a fake out so that when the fee is like...5 bucks it's a better blow. That and I doubt it will stay the actual price of the game for the entire lifetime of the console.

I'm sure we'll find a workaround, otherwise how will gamestop work? There is already a legal precedent where the total cost of playing the used game cannot exceed the new game price (IE when they sold Used copies of NCAA Football that needed an online pass for only 5 bucks below the new copy, so those who bought a used a copy ended up paying 5 bucks more) Would you "release" the game from your library, which would open the code for use again? Or would gamestop have to take a fee system into account, meaning gamestop go BOOM.

The general vibe I got was that it more or less amounts to CD keys, so as long as they can require people to hand over their product code along with the game while they're selling it I'm sure there's a way it can work out. That's not what bothers me about the whole system, frankly. Assume you do borrow a friend's copy and pay the retail-standard fine for installation. Who does all that money go to? Does it go back to the publishers, or does Microsoft get it all? Because we've got a serious fucking problem if it's the latter.

Agreed on the last part. But since the game is installed and then tied to your account...do you have to get the disk back if they pay the fee?

Emergency Jimquisition inbound!

EDIT: Friend list limit will be increased to 1,000 with Xbox One. "Real Identities" will also be applied. AKA everyone on your friend list will see your real name. Also, new reputation system in the works, although no one knows how different it will be from the current system, if at all.
