Northeast Japan is in dire straits. Hundreds of bodies found floating in the ocean. Official casualty toll: 185 dead, 741 missing, 948 injured. Spare a thought and a prayer for the victims. |

Your link claims it was an 8.9, by the way. But man, this sucks. Here's hoping the death count doesn't rise much higher. |

Different sources list it as either an 8.8 or an 8.9, no one seems to be dead set on the exact number from what I can tell. Either way, what happened to that tsunami that resulted from this? I heard it was supposed to hit practically every coastal part of the planet, yet I haven't heard anything from anyone about it. Was it overexaggerated or did it just not happen? |

I think the tsunami hit. Some aspects of it have been exaggerated, though. Namely through rumours of certain famous people dead, circulated throughout Facebook and Twitter. So far, the rumoured deaths I've heard of are that of Satoshi Tajiri, Tite Kubo; and Masashi Kishimoto. All have been disproved thus far. |

Japan got the brunt of tsunami: I heard a lot of homes and chunks of highway got swept out to sea. |

I know that Hawaii and the west coast of North America were hit without any dire effects. The waves seemed to have died down a lot faster than anticipated, but it's better to anticipate the worst rather than to believe nothing is going to happen and being proven wrong. More to the point, the nuclear reactor that was damaged by the earthquake experienced an explosion within its walls. Currently, the government is worried about the risk of meltdown. Hopefully the administration will take steps to shut down the reactor before the core becomes damaged and leaks radiation. |

The explosion didn't directly damage the reactor (thank god). Luckily, this isn't the same kind of reactor that Chernobyl had, so there won't be any mass matter ejections, turning most of Japan into The Zone. I forgot where I read the technicals on that, but I've read a lot by smart rational people who know a bit more about nuclear reactors and were able to interpret things. Reason I read so much was because of this, which had turned up being a hoax anyway. It freaked me out so badly because those numbers were well beyond fatal. Not instantly fatal, but hope for survival was incredibly low. BUT IT'S FAKE. That isn't to say a meltdown wouldn't affect more than Japan, which would be wrong, but it certainly won't be that extreme. Also this for some details: http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/77171.html And this: http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/1...arth/index.html Japan was moved 8 feet. All of the isle of Japan. Earth's axis shifted 10 centimeters. |

I can't see that because 4Chan is blocked, but that wouldn't happen to be the same image as this would it? http://i.imgur.com/aYNDB.jpg I saw this yesterday I think, found it on Luffy's Facebook. Some people just really need to fucking die, seriously. |

So evidently, there are more and more people still making very insensitive and asinine statements like that? I...I really don't know how to respond to that. |

People am stupid. Also, they will likely be the first to succumb to Poseidon's wrath should a tidal wave hit their places of dwelling. |

Let's see now, how best to express my opinion of that commentary pic...? :/ I agree with Psycho, some of those fuckwits need to be tied to a pole, sent back in time, and planted right where the tsunami would hit. That's beyond dickish of people to say that this is karma for Pearl Harbor, and the sheer level of STUPID is mind-boggling. This is precisely why the Eagleland Type Two archetype exists: Assholes like these who give America a bad name. Anywho, hoping the total death toll won't go up. These people didn't deserve this in the slightest. |
