Doubtless you guys have seen what has been going on in the state of Wisconsin and its labor union wars, but other states are going nuts as well. South Dakota is moving to expand permitted killing to include saving an unborn fetus, regardless of health of mother and/or unborn child. Georgia seriously considering investigating each miscarriage case to determine if it was a "true" miscarriage and not an abortion, no exceptions. Indiana, following in the footsteps of Wisconsin, had moved for an anti-union bill, sending Democrats running for the borders. The main bill failed because of this, but Democrats will not return until the other bills like it also die. With Texas revealing their punisher-style Republican GOP some time ago, and Arizona's furious crackdown on immigration it seems that the Republicans have become more then just an annoyance; they've become a pestilence. |

Fox news, what happened? You're supposed to be the villain! Now who are we going to blindly make fun of when we want to slam the news? Edited by Eternally Fallen, Aug 11 2011, 11:49 AM.

The House Democrats were in the midst of speaking on the bill, when, at one o'clock in the morning, the leader called the vote. After fifteen seconds, the bill passed, moving to the senate. As you can see in this video, the democrats were only slightly miffed. Shame! Shame! Shame! Shame! Edited by Eternally Fallen, Aug 11 2011, 11:49 AM.

Oh dear lord, seriously people? Though in that regard, after seeing a list of crap that Republicans want to do to restrict women's rights and freedom I can't say I'm terribly surprised. What's next ya bunch of diseased donkeys, taking away the women's right to vote? It's like they want the American population to come crashing down on them. Or they're Christian extremists. One of the two. |

Okay, I know about as much about American politics as I do fixing a car, so can someone please explain all of this to me in layman's terms? All I know is Republicans are crotchey old people who want to enforce a bunch of outdated and ass backwards laws from the stone age and consist mainly of religious fanatics and soccer moms...or some combination of the above. |

I'll try to explain the WI thing in the best, most biased way I possibly can. Early last week, Scott Walker, the new Governor of WI, released his new budget bill, with the intent of it passing on that friday. The bill mostly takes from the public sector, and also takes away union's rights to collectively bargain, which would in effect destroy the power of the unions. People protested this, and when the public said that they would give up the benefits (the parts that would save the government the money), but Walker refused to negotiate on it, and still refuses to negotiate at all. The bill is made entirely for union busting, and it's possibly because unions are the only major democratic monetary supporter after the supreme court ruled that corporations can donate as much as they wanted during a campaign. The democrats are outnumbered in the senate, so this bill would pass with flying colors. however, the Democrats have all fled the state, and refuse to come back until Walker will negotiate with them on the subject. With every democrat missing, the senate does not have a quorum (by one person) so the cannot vote on anything. Additionally, the bill will allow Walker to sell several power plants from his discretion, which would allow the Koch brothers to gain a monopoly. The Koch brothers, as it turns, were the single biggest supporters of Walker's during his campaign. A man was inspired to pretend to be one of the Koch's in a call to Walker, where he then admitted several things, including: - Plans to pay people to instigate in the massive protest, causing riots to break it up. - Plans to tell the democrats he was ready to negotiate, only to call the quorum the moment one of them gets back. That's about it for now. |

No... that's called an extremist. If what you said was true, then that would mean that all democrats are all socialists and communists. I try staying clear from politics in general most of the time, but I think it's best to try and look at things from an unbiased view as often as possible, people can't properly resolve a conflict without doing this. Sometimes I wish there was at least 1 republican on the forums I go to, to somewhat balance these types of discussions out, because I haven't really been paying attention to this story... now I have to do research outside of the topic to get the opposing view. I'm conflicted on what side to take actually, still a little confused.
You don't, uh... think your prediction sounds a little extreme? lol... Last I heard, it's ok for women to have an abortion, based on how far its developed. |

Considering Georgia wants to create an abortion police for any case of miscarriage, it seems that would restrict on a woman's rights, don't you think? |

I don't think they represent anybody but themselves. Georgia is just weird like that. Personally I only believe in abortion if it's early in development, otherwise, no. Past that point where they've had enough time to decide and let it grow, it's like saying they have a right to kill their child. You can't just say murder is restricting women's rights, and go thinking anyone would go further and prevent women from doing basic things, as much of an exaggeration as it is. I don't want to derail the thread though, just wanted to nitpick on a few comments. |

Extreme? Maybe. It could just be my dim view of the government but I seriously doubt there are good intentions behind this, even moreso since this would allow the government to meddle in the lives of people it really shouldn't. Yes, ending a life is wrong, but at the same time it feels like they don't see things from all the angles themselves and are trying to pass judgement on people they know little to nothing about, only that if they're to be targeted by the law if they do an abortion or support abortion in any way. And how are they going to go about this anyway? I know it's probably a tired statement, but I really feel like this is a big step backwards. If some poor woman is going to die because of a half-developed child? "Tough shit." A doctor in South Dakota preforms the abortion anyway? "You're a dead man." This has all the potential to be abused to hell and back, or even turned into another round of the Salem Witch Trials, and I have no doubt that some people will. |

Hey, give fox news credit. At least they are talking about it. I haven't seen almost any coverage from any other national news source. Even WI local news is lacking! Not one of our local news channels mentioned this little court order bit. Let me set it up for ya'. This morning, there was a court order to let the people back into the building. You see, they had been kicked out of the building on monday for "cleaning", only for the NG out there to guard the place and let no one in. Notice it's not the police, they left after the cheif told Walker that they would not act as "palace guard" (his words). Anyways, the judge ruled that this was illegal, and they need to let the people back in. However, even after receiving this letter, the doors remained shut, and the protesters left out. Of course, not one station mentioned any of this, not even twelve, who reported amongst the protesters outside the capitol. They did manage to find time in there program to plug the 20/20 Charlie Sheen interview, however! I'm so glad real news prevails again! Also, here's one uf our fine senators talking about the matter, referring to the protesters as "slobs" and mostly college age kids treating it like a party. Of course, last week, all the protesters were teachers who were evil because they were deserting the children, and fire fighters who were being selfish by abandoning their post! I guess all the union members have given up. |
