We all know that communication between various divisions of a company is important for it's success, which was very evident with Sega. I recently found out that Hudson Entertainment's US division will be closing at the end of the month. Why? Because of poor communication between them and the Japanese division.

Earlier today, Hudson Entertainment brand manager, Morgan Haro, revealed in a blog post that the company will soon be no more.

While Hudson Soft, the main company branch in Japan will continue to operate, Hudson Entertainment, which was responsible for marketing and publishing Hudson games in the U.S. — the latest being Lost in Shadow for the Wii — is being shut down at the end of the month.

In a passionate blog post explaining some of the circumstances behind the termination, Haro revealed communication issues between the company’s Japanese and U.S. divisions. “There were countless opportunities our titles weren’t taking advantage of. Numerous trends to not only watch out for and adapt to, but possibly start as well,” he wrote.

He continued “It was only at the start of 2011 did an air of change come to that communication process. But it appears it was too late.” The entire blog post can be found at the link above, and it gives some very specific insight as to what led to the sad state of affairs at Hudson today.

Hudson is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Konami who also have offices in the U.S., but none of the Hudson Entertainment staff are being offered jobs at their parent company, we heard from within the company. We wish them the very best of luck.

While big name titles like Bomberman and Bloody Roar will survive this as they are now handled by Konami, Hudson's parent company, we will no longer see localisation of intuitive and fun titles from them like Lost in Shadow, Rooms or Calling. If the industry is falling appart because of simple problems such as poor communication, then how do they expect us to hope it'll survive the next 10 years?

Following an official filing yesterday, Hudson has issued a more succinct statement at its homepage announcing its upcoming absorption/merger into Konami Digital Entertainment.

"We will continue to work to deliver new entertainment to our fans, now as a member of Konami Group," read the message.

Hudson brand product and services will continue to be developed, according to the notice. This makes it seem that the Hudson name will continue to live.

It also appears that the Hudson official site will stay open.

Of course, with Konami holding their hand, who knows if this'll actually work out in the end. We'll just have to wait and see. =/

I read something about a slight merger with Konami. Chances seem more likely that they'll use Hudson more for social games or whatever rather than their own IP's. I can't remember the precise wording, though.

Regardless, I hope that Hudson will continue to make their games and that Konami will help with the localisation, 'cos I wanna see that Bomberman 3DS game D:

Konami hasn't taken advantage of the buyout of Hudson since it happened, I don't even know why they bothered in the first place. Now with a full on merger, I really just expect Hudson's IPs to fade into obscurity, because Konami is completely content with living off of Metal Gear Solid.

And with that, Konami is better off just making movies with how Metal Gear Solid has been treated as of late, Revengence being the obvious exception...so far.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

Considering how they butchered Castlevania by outsourcing it to some Western developer to create a half assed game that can't decide whether it wants to be God of War or Shadow of the Colossus? Oh and there's that okay multiplayer title...yeah, no future for any of it's great franchises. I won't be surprised if they shaft the 3DS Contra title that they announced a while back.
