The entire meltdown over Twitter, for the morbidly curious.

This isn't the first time this guy has said some stupid shit on the internet and, the more I see of his crap, the less inclined I am to even bother giving this "Fez" a look.
Yeah I will never even try Fez now.

FEZ is per-definition of Hipster Garbage Indie Game. You're not missing much on it.

Meh. Once again I find myself on the side of Fish. He's harsh and quick to the point, a thing the masses are just as quick to turn away from. It's a shame that he plays into their troll bait though - he gets upset quick and that leads to another couple of hours work that gaming sites don't even have to dig for. He makes it too easy. What's simpler than reporting on someone having a hissy? Luckily you or I don't have such a large group of people trying to out us with every word.

The last I heard about Phil was criticizing the abhorrent, repetitive, devolving nature of the JRPG... And to this day, I still see nothing but truth in such a statement. JRPGs have been more stagnant than FPS, for longer as far as I can tell.

Also, to anyone so easily effected by this, please reconsider playing Fez. The mans intelligence and care in game design are the only things you get from playing Fez. It doesn't come with any of the outbursts on Twitter. If you still think he's an asshole by default, just remember that assholes create amazing shit every other day. And where would the gaming industry even be without them :)

Also, meh for a Fez 2 anyway. I want to see him put that much care into a AAA game. If only :(
Good Game

Hex: Yes, you've read the book, you've seen the film - now avoid the game like the plague lest your memory of Harry Potter's epic conclusion be tainted by what can only be described as a short, half-arsed cover-shooter that's boring beyond belief.

Bajo: ...It's shit.

Before this latest meltdown, he played the racist card against blacks.

This guy has the social skills of Chris-chan. If anything, the cancellation of FEZ 2, and Fish's departure from the games industry, makes the world a better place.

So, what, just because he's a celebrity he shouldn't be held accountable? If he has issues with the way people criticise him or his work, then he should either not open channels to the public, or hire a PR guy to handle that stuff for him. Everyone endures criticism from other people on a daily basis, celebrity or not and, it's the way that we deal with and endure it that shape our characters. Fish has proven time and again that he has the disposition of a petulant child and half of his outbursts aren't even responses to anything, they're just him voicing his very skewed opinion.

And that's why we have games like Xenoblade, Last Story, Disgaea and Hyperdimension Neptunia. If you're just going to comment on popular developers like Square, then yes, all you'll see is stagnant garbage, but niche developers continue to push the envelope to make different games. At the very least, it's better than what Western developers are doing; Mass Effect started out trying too hard to be a JRPG and ended up mutating into a generic TPS in the end. They can't even hold their shit together. On that note, back to the original point, it's okay for him to criticise the industry, but it's a crime if someone criticised his work?

I gave Fez a look, it just looks like every other retro looking indie game on the market, but with Super Paper Mario mechanics of switching planes. It is on my wishlist though, for completeness's sake, but I'm not really sure I want to bother supporting an outspoken, childish bigot who likes to criticise others, but can't handle taking it himself.

To be fair, generalising like that always makes a person sound silly but, as I see it, he was being, well, general and therefore not talking about the notable exceptions, such as the ones you listed. I'm not sure I can agree that Western developers are any better/worse because in my eyes, everyone with power in the games industry is doing a neat job of fucking it up. People are slowly realizing they don't need to be handing their money to these deadbeats though. Which is where I can't help but adore the indie scene, despite the rather lackluster crap that can spew out from it - at least they tried to do something different. Mostly.

And yeah, of course it's not okay for him to do that. As I said, it's a shame that he lashes out... But I'm quite sure I would do the same thing in a position looked up to by thousands of people and I'd rather do that than try to pretend I'm anything else. Which is a trick I think a lot of people don't think about when they're not in that position. Image. I don't follow him or anything but from WAYYYYYY outside, it's looks like he gets more shit than he deserves, which just seems to create a retarded cycle of internet arguments and annoying, baseless, cruel fucking headlines. Maybe I'm wrong and he's the scum of the earth and he should die. It just doesn't seem like it and I have yet to see a proper dialogue with the man in any of the articles I've read. I did see Indie game though and he came off as, well, intelligent but quite anti-social, despite his close friend group. I figured he would cause some controversy. He reminds me of Bill Hicks but like, with a shorter fuse and access to the internet. And way less influential and mature. Okay, that lists goes on but I maintain he's a smart dude! :P

Also, just because he lashed out doesn't mean everything he said was wrong. He probably aimed it at the wrong people, either way. He does need to get over his precious baby (game) a little bit but, seriously guys, there's way more to that game than what you see at first glance. Perhaps not gameplay wise but I've had numerous friends get lost in that game for days, searching for anything and everything they can find and they weren't even close to finding everything. I'm just trying to say guys; the products integrity should VASTLY outweigh the arrogance of it's creator. Especially when it comes to games/gaming. It would be great if the entirety of the industry could learn and understand this.

He's well supported either way and anybody who's anybody gives out thier criticism when it isn't necessary, at least from my hermit POV. If you guys couldn't tell, I support the game. I'm indifferent to Phil himself due to his nature of hissy fits but his product I couldn't praise enough. Well, I could but I haven't yet :P.

I get behind this, though the fuel to this guy's ego is his game, so it's a toss up between trying to enjoy something despite given circumstances, or dropping it on its head and letting him know that he's not god's gift to the world. Voting with your wallet does work and, the fact that he's not making a sequel to his crowning (more like only) achievement means that he'll have to find an income somewhere else and, given his history, it seems less and less likely that anyone would hire him for a project. Image is important if you're in the people's spotlight and it will affect your career.

In what world is it ever a reasonable reaction to cancel your video game because of a mean comment online
I can get people being a little lenient but come on

At least with Fish, I don't hear retarded backpeddling. At least we know when that guy tells you to kill yourself, he means it :P. (Again, I don't follow much of, well, anything so I don't even know if that's true or not.)

Also, yes pls! But not Telltale. That universe has an almost infinite amount of possibilities gameplay wise, I would despise point-and-click Venture Bros... Until I played it, probably. Still, it would be a hell of a missed opportunity.

Correct me if I'm wrong but can't he get in serious trouble for that (especially if the person actually did commit suicide)?

I'd go with action adventure; some puzzle solving using the bros, inventions with the doc and KILLING EVERYTHING WITH YOUR BARE FISTS with Brock.

I think you'd have trouble getting a conviction (given the sheer number of suicide urgings made on the internet every day) but I'm not a lawyer
