To be honest, personally I am just going to assume Capcom aren't idiots who hate money and they wouldn't can a game that wasn't going to come up as a loss no matter how much spite they have for some developer who has left. They have actual statistics based on the game's reception in Japan and how much everything would cost, we don't. Megaman is hardly a household name any more and Legends has always been a cult hit sort of game, if they say "there really isn't that much interest" then I have no reasno to disbelieve them. A massive facebook group and large public outcry when the game is cancelled proves almost nothing. Firstly games need staggeringly large numbers of units sold to break even let alone make a profit. Costs for game production can cost between 10 to 50 million dollars (and these are old figures I am using, it's probably more for the 3DS considering there's less knowledge, and this also means there is much less of a market for the final product because there aren't as many units out there). Assuming the publisher received every cent of their product's sales and sold at $50 per unit, a low-cost current-gen game (i.e. probably not what MML3 was looking at) would need to sell 200 thousand copies to get back everything they spent on development. But they don't get all the proceeds. Publishers usually receive less than $20 per game sale (once again, according to the linked article), raising the necessary sales to over 500 thousand units just to break even. And that still doesn't take into account the scope of the game (I assume MML3 was going to be pretty big, and would cost significantly more than the low-end estimate of $10M - then again that's estimates for consoles; there's not enough data for 3DS productions costs yet, and that info probably won't be available until it's a good two years out-of-date or so), advertising costs (can also reach tens of millions) or, you know, actually making a profit. I don't know how ambitious MML3 was supposed to be, nor how much cash has gone into it already, nor how costly it was projected to be. I do know that all estimates of the outraged fans who would buy this game so far presented have been in the tens-of-thousands, which is most certainly not enough sales to recover the losses that would be sustained in producing the game. Secondly, remember all those Steam groups boycotting modern warfare 2? And then how on release day, 75% of the people in them were playing modern warfare 2? It's easy to make bold claims like "I will never play Capcom games again!!" but not only is it slightly childish in most cases it also really isn't true. It's a shame when a game I want to play gets cancelled but I am not going to second guess a company's business sense when I know very little about the subject. You can say it's bad because you wanted to play the game but companies are not going to release games at a loss just because a couple of people would like them to, nice as it would be that isn't how the world works. As loud as this outcry is, it still doesn't drown out the silence of the indifferent people who wouldn't buy the game and they, not the people who are interested, are the reason MML3 is not getting released. |

I didn't want to start a topic about Castlevania Lords of Shadow just to post this video, so here it is. Konami tries to salvage their crappy game by saying that Simon should've been in the game: But yeah, Konami is in the same list with Capcom! |

That doesn't look anything like Simon Belmont, it just looks like the same douche from the normal game in a different outfit. |

You'd think by now game company's would be smart enough to prepare plenty of strong launch titles for when the system launches. |

It is a little baffling why they decided to release it without ANY good first party IPs apart from a rerelease of a game made years ago that they have already rereleased a couple of times It's not like they had any competition |

From what I remember they said they wanted to pace themselves so that they don't run into the same problems they did with the Wii I believe. Either way, there's pacing yourself and just outright not doing anything. The only launch titles from Nintendo were Pilot Wings Resort, Steel Diver and Ocarina of Time 3D. From my experience, there'd be a lot of people buying the third one, a decent amount buying the first and practically no one buying the second (which is a crying shame, because it's an awesome game). But hey, at least they're admiting they were wrong and are doing something about it I guess. |

EA is apparently claiming they're now going to take a more offensive approach to the market than a defensive one (that's hilarious) which means providing games as a service. This means you no longer own their games, expect pay to play, DRM, more people being banned for not agreeing with them...just total control. They are going to transform into a fully integrated digital company...despite admiting they were wrong last month and...yeah it's just retarded. EA has said that Star Wars: The Old Republic will have an exceptional launch, yet they are releasing limited quantities initially. How...is that logic? Well, to them, it means selling very little amounts initially, selling out and then claiming sales did exceptionally well. Yeah, EA has it's head firmly shoved up it's own ass. You wanna know what's worse? They gave out pre-orders at Comic-Con and that preorder? Doesn't go towards the game, but towards tax. You're paying 5 bucks for a preorder ON TOP OF the $60 pricetag. Aaaaand this is just proof that BioWare has gotten fat off of EA and let their attitude rub on them. They're claiming their series' are more mature than Star Wars. Rockstar claimed they cut out content from the game and are selling it off as DLC because it wouldn't fit on a Blu-Ray, a laughable excuse in itself. The developers of Super Meat Boy don't care if their games are pirated, they just want their game out there. California is still butting heads with the industry because that last case is costing the state another $11 000 000. That's a lot of fucking money. Namco is following Capcom's approach by not giving users the ability to delete data on 3DS games. No surprises there since Namco is part of the same evil corporate triumvate Capcom, Konami and Square are. Online passes will not support rental games. That is BULLSHIT. Insomniac is complaining about used games hurting developers. Seriously, I had no idea they'd jump on this pathetic bandwagon. Why were rentals and used games okay a few years ago and not now? THQ says that next generation, games would cost about $100 on average. That's funny considering how much is spent on DLC and other shit probably racks the game's overall price to around that much. Of course, they're saying this because they lost about $384000000 this quarter because of terrible games. KOFXIII is going to be having a lot of DLC. The 98 version of Iori will be pre-order DLC, but aside from this, they say they're going to open up a marketplace for people to download characters, stages, music...the works. On Ultimate Douchebags vs Dumbass 3, DLC has been announced (OH MY GOD, I DID NOT EXPECT THAT SO SOOOOOON) and will range from costumes to a new single player mode and new options. LET THE MILKING COMMENCE! YEEEEEEEAAAAAH! Capcom is still making tweaks to Dante's character design for the new game. Looks like the fans' distaste might actually be paying off *high fives Arem*. Bethesda says they're keen on bigger complete packages, already announcing DLC for Skyrim. So yeah, wait until the GOTY edition. 2K games is scared to make a different game. The new X-Com is going to be a first person shooter because they think it won't survive in today's market. Fans of the series should be mighty pissed off at hearing this considering how awesome the older games were (personally not a big fan, but I can appreciate what they were). This shit right here is exactly what's wrong with devs today. Deus Ex goes GOLD. Breath of Fire IV is getting a PSN release on August 16th (FUCK YEAH). Ubisoft comes out arrogantly claiming their DRM is a success....AHAHAHAHAHAHAH, I guess they paid absolutley no attention to what happened with Assassin's Creed 2 then? Looks like they'll be pushing it even more. From Dust is going to need a constant connection to be played. They'll also be pushing DRM on Driver: San Francisco on the PC. The Red Faction series is getting it's plug pulled because of the last game's terrible sales. Jason and Michael Meyers were considered for Mortal Kombat before Freddy Krueger and that they may still be released later on as DLC. Spider-Man: Edge of Time comes out October 4th. Now here's something fucked up. A couple sells their children to play online games, and because this is so screwed up, I'm posting the link from the infobar: http://pc.ign.com/articles/118/1184373p1.html Didn't want to raise them? WHY DID YOU HAVE THEM? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE TODAY? |

Okay, it's one thing to admit they're shitty parents and put the kids up for adoption or something, but the fact they would rather have made a profit off it is just plain fucking wrong. The sad thing is, no doubt there'll be some idiotic journalist out there who'll find out about this and find some way to pin it on the videogames rather than just plain fucked up individuals. |

So in other words, they made a graphics engine with hi-res voxels? Or is there more to it than that? |

Saw this earlier today. Unlimited powa! A game could now probably be as vast as every location in the world we live in... imagine what that could do for a new online virtual community. |

Open world games would actually be vast and limitless. No more running into invisible walls or anything. The next GTA game could very well take place across the entire country as opposed to one city or part of one state. |
