...but I like manuals... 3':

In all honesty, with the Internet and all, it may be about time to retire paper manuals...but I'll still miss 'em...

On the subject of manuals, they've been phased out over the years and have been resold individually under a different moniker; art books. You see, back in the day, manuals weren't just a catalogue of instructions on how to play the game, but featured exclusive content from the game, like artwork, in depth storylines, character biographies and the like. I think I remember spending an entire weekend reading through all my Blizzard game manuals because they were so rich with STUFF worth looking into.

Nowadays, manuals are two page inserts that show you the controls, which you can easily see in-game anyway, along with how games these days treat the players like idiots and have to hand-hold them throughout the entire game by telling them to press A to jump all the way to the final boss. Everything else will usually be found through official websites, or the aforementioned art books and such. In the end, it makes more sense for them to completely axe manuals anyway, because developers stopped caring enough to do anything worthwhile with them a long time ago.

Like I said, with the advent of the internet and the treasure trove of information it has given us about our games, the need for manuals has been greatly diminished over time. Especially considering most games have tutorials that tell us everything we used to learn from manuals.

Still sucks to have them gone. Maybe I'm just getting old... :P

Honestly I've decided to axe physical all together, since I don't collect games or re-sell them. It's nice to have everything at your touch without all the extra bulk

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

I'm ok with the manuals being with the game, but I prefer physical copies of the game themselves.

Some games never needed manuals but still had them(i can think of two off the top of my head FFXIII, Last Remnant) while with other games, it just made the whole experience that much more epic(Oblivion, Skyrim).
Manuals, u will be missed...

I haven't bought a manual since... you know I don't think I ever bought a manual. I was always like, "$15 for help? Fuck that, a 1-900 assistance would be cheaper." I never needed help to figure out a game to the point I bought an entire book for it, no matter how pretty the cover. Gamefaqs just has everything I need these days anyway.

We're not talking game guides, Havoc. They ain't goin' away any time soon. We're talking about the instruction manuals that come with the game. You know, the little booklets that tell you how to jump and hit things?

Ohh... Yeah manuals for the basics are kind of in the game these days. Though when I was younger, it was fun to look through a manual on the way back home while drooling to play it.
