I was going to type out something long and detailed about how this would be counter-productive/useless regarding the Polygon article but I think I'll just sum it up instead: We don't (and never seem to) have any fucking idea on how to approach/deal with most issues, especially when it's with regards to the "children". |

Nintendo is claiming ownership of Let's Plays and wants exclusive rights and all ad revenue generated from them. While they're not doing something as drastic as pulling the plug on people and they claim that they're just doing this because they want to branch off into more social media outlets, it's still ridiculous for them to claim content ownership for content they had no part in creating, then pretty much taking the money these Youtube users earned through ads, and not the actual video itself, or the content therein. So far, they're only targeting new Mario titles on the 3DS and Wii U, but either way, who knows how far this'll go. This is pretty ominous and brings on a feeling of dread and foreboding about what could come of this. It might be a "tame" start (it's not really, but it could be worse), but who knows how much further into abuse territory this could go and how other companies could piggyback off this idea and do their own damage. |

If it's literally just a let's play video (no original content) I see no problem with this. I think it's positive that they aren't pulling the plug, and this sets a precedent for a better handling of gameplay videos than "LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR". Now if we're talking original content, we got a problem. |

If they've learned anything from the Brawl reveal, they'll already have an absolute stinger of a character reveal ready and waiting for their E3 and or Directs. It's hard to imagine who they could possibly reveal to match Snake's unveiling, though. |
