For games in particular, a new "automated classification system" is being prepared, which will allow developers and publishers to effectively classify their games themselves at a near $0 cost. Currently priority is being given to mobile and online games, according to the guy Kotaku spoke to in the article, as they generally don't get classified here. This will let indie devs actually release their games here on Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and Nintendo eShop as the minimum $800 classification fee tends to scare them away. We might actually be able to access the Indie channel on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace in the future.

Excuse me I need to get some of Satan's Iced Horn right now. That's amazing news to be honest. I hope it works and then takes the place of the ESRBtards here, most game devs here know "Dude I don't want kids playing this".

Unfortunately, this is the norm now; as much as we all wanted gaming to go more mainstream so that we wouldn't be as alienated as a subculture between other forms of media, the end result was far from pleasant. I can tolerate the whole "bros" mentality because everyone is entitled to their tastes with regards to what they consider as good videogames, but to have it be the definitive standard for all games to be forced to adhere to? Does anyone here still wonder why I never bothered getting a 360? On that note, I love how "they're the guys who made Halo" is supposed to be something relevant to me. :P

It provides a lot more informaton that I've managed to find out own my own, but apparently the schedule will keep this going all the way to 2021-2025. Another ten friggin' years. Not sure if the video will play for non-Aussies, as the ABC has regional issues with their own original programming, for some stupid as fuck reason. But you might be able to download the video from their website through this link, though.
