Objective problems for SEGA leading up to the Dreamcast: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Objective problems leading up to the WiiU: ![]() And even then it's debatable - it had a controller that, while crazy ergonomic, has a button layout that fucked third parties up the ass, but you can bet Ninty still made money off it on their own. It takes a truly spectacular kind of awful for a hardware giant to ruin themselves in a single console gen, and a special kind of naievete to believe a dry spell immediately after launch means anything when it has happened for basically every console launch for every hardware manufacturer ever. Even Sega chugged on for another 2-3 gens after the Genesis, and only bailed out because their problems snowballed over a long period of time (kinda like Sony's are, come to think of it). This is of course completely neglecting the fact that unlike Sega, Nintendo holds a borderline fucking monopoly on the handheld market and has done so practically as long as the market has even existed, so even if by some completely fucking catastrophic stroke of misfortune they're forced to discontinue the WiiU, worst case scenario is, they'll still have the 3DS and its successors to print money on. So in other words people are making Nintendo mountains out of Nintendo molehills. So what's new? EDIT: and it only just now occured to me that I'm saying more or less the exact same thing the guy in the second link pointed out. Well, crap, I probably should've read that first. Oh well, venting is fun. Edited by Blacklightning, Mar 3 2013, 01:35 PM.

Well, I finally noticed a certain franchise on that auction list a few posts back. Seeco, you left off a worthwhile franchise on your list: Homeworld. Here's hoping that gets picked up by a strong developer and has something good done with it. It's been waaaaay too long since that open-ended ending from Homeworld 2. |

Indeed it is, though I probably could have worded the second link better, given that it is slightly connected to the Forbes article. Oh well. |

Analysts join gaming journalists as the most despicable scum of the internet. Seriously, you'd think that the people that we're supposed to look to the most for advice end up becoming the industry's Anti-Christ just to get a few extra pageviews. |

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been re-classifed by the Australian Classification Board. Or rather, classified a second time as a "modified" version, with the same rating as the original classification. Remember how Australian developers Straight Right (the guys who did the Wii U port of ME3) said they were working on a Wii U port of a AAA Square Enix title? This is probably it. |

I'm willing to bet it'll come with the DLC built-in ala Arkham Armoured Edition, but it probably won't be as big a step up considering the retarded amount of DLC milking Arkham City got. Gamepad inventory might be an awesome touch considering you were previously required to pause the game to manage it, but I'm not sure it'll be enough to make me play it twice, especially considering the anticlimactic endings. |

Holy shit, an unlockable campaign in an upcoming game that is actually unlockable. Then again, Gears has been pretty decent in terms of not having bullshit DLC. But it's been ages since you could actually unlock extra game content by doing something other than shoving money down publishers' throats. |

Except with how anally retarded they are about not allowing specific regions to download/play their DLC (even off the godamn disc). Seriously, I have a region 1/NTSC 360 and my region is set to the US, what gives you the right to tell me whether I'm allowed to play these extra levels from your retarded game? |

http://www.uproxx.com/gammasquad/2013/03/dear-game-devs-for-the-love-of-god-stop-telling-us-60-isnt-a-lot-of-money/ I was thinking of buying MGS Revengence a week ago, then kept thinking about day 1 prices. Then I thought, well maybe redbox will have it, then I remembered keeping Assassin's Creed for a week and owing $20, even Blockbuster wouldn't do that to you when it existed. I also realized that the chances of it A: Being in a RedBox near me and B: It even being available at that specific one. Then I was thinking, hmm... there's always gamefly... which is $184.40 a year. Downloading it for free is always an option, except with torrents being monitored by Comcast now I rather not go for a popular download. So that leaves a gamer trying to keep things cheap as possible to either pay the full $60+ taxes or wait a month until it's $10 less online, where shipping will pretty much making it only $5 off in the end. No matter how you try to justify it, $60 is too much for most gamers. Edited by Havoc the Tenrec, Mar 6 2013, 07:13 AM.

It's only going to get worse with the PS4. Expect $70+ launch prices for PS4 games. |

They're going to pump even more cash into developing for the next gen, which, in ther eyes, will justify them charging an extra $10 in order to try and fail to turn a profit. Especially with EA, Activision and Ubisoft. Sure, it hasn't been explicitly confirmed by anyone, but come on, you've got be stupid to think that the jerkasses of the video game industry won't nickel and dime their consumers for more cash whenever tey get the chance. |

Economics, Havoc. Naturally, prices will rise as technology becomes more sophisticated and more expensive to make. Technology is ALWAYS ahead of human sciences and concerns, like politics and economics. |

You mean like how Sony was being honest about the hacker attacks? Yeah, I'll believe it when the games actually come out. |
