And yet they were still selling for a loss as late as 2010. While it's debatable whether it's been profitable in the two years since, 3-4 years of losing anywhere from twenty to two hundred bucks per unit (and that's just going off parts alone) has taken a pretty big toll and it's yet to have any effect on Sony's actual debt based on the statistics we've seen earlier. It's not like the Vita wasn't sold at a loss either - though on that it's hard to comment considering we've heard less in the way of statistics and more in the way of PR on that front. It's this Orbis news that concerns me - in particular because people tend to strongly underestimate the amount of effort it takes to render 3D in comparison to the actual appeal it gives. Even on the 3DS the system's required to cut the framerate in half in order to render any kind of 3D display, despite also requiring a seperate processor for each eye. Now, this is only viewed at 400x240 on a 3DS screen, and to the best of my knowledge we haven't seen a 60fps game yet even with the 3D disabled, so when we're talking a system that can run 1080p - more than twenty times the 3DS's resolution - at a consistent 60 frames per second, and still have enough power left over to render the entire game environment a second time for 3D viewing without affecting performance, we're talking an absolute fucking beast of a console. Even if we're talking a polycount of the exact equivalent of the current gen, this is tantamount at the very least to duct-taping two PS3's together. This is, of course, in addition to having to own a specific TV set capable of displaying 3D in the first place, and Sony hasn't been very lucrative in the TV business either - in fact, if anything, they're doing even worse there. Now if even the fucking WiiU plans to sell for a loss at current gen prices - something many will argue is only superficially superior to the current gen in terms of hardware, and something that nobody will deny is extremely unusual as a Nintendo business tactic - how exactly do you make something cost effective with those kinds of specs? No seriously, I'm wracking my brains here trying to comprehend how exactly you'd make a machine like that without it becoming a lose-lose situation as far as money is concerned, but it all seems to come right back to making the exact same mistakes that got them in trouble with the PS3. Well, most of them, anyway - sadly, Kutaragi is no longer active enough to make a prospective PS4 launch absolutely hilarious. |

Some copies of Black Ops 2 shipped with Mass Effect 2 discs instead. It's been a while since we've heckled Activision for fucking up, huh? |

BioWare took this as an opportunity to hand out free PC copies of Mass Effect Trilogy when it releases, you know, because that's obviously what people who bought a completely different game want. Unfortunately(?), this issue with Black Ops 2 affected thousands of PC gamers. BioWare only gave out codes to the first fifty to respond. Aside from that, Activison still hasn't said anything about this slip up yet. |

It's more than they were expected to do considering that, you know, it wasn't in any way, shape or form their fault or in fact anything remotely to do with them. Also as they're only giving them to the first people who asked for them, clearly they are going to people who want them! Edited by Jacquerel, Nov 15 2012, 03:39 PM.

So wait, I got lost there; did Activision fuck up, or did BioWare pull this stunt on purpose? Also, what's this about a code? |

I think it's safe to assume someone at Activision who plainly did not give a fuck somehow got their discs mixed after they went gold, though why they'd keep an ME2 disc within reach of a BO2 install is anyone's guess. I reckon it's likely Bioware only butted in to steal customers, knowing how competitive EA is with Acty. In other Activision news, Black Ops Declassified for the Vita is a massive critical flop. According to NeoGAF, the game was only in development for five months, and comes with less than an hour's worth of single player content. Amazingly enough they still actually expect to be able to sell this for 50 US bucks. |

All-TIME 100 Video Games In all honesty, that's a pretty accurate list of the videogames that have defined the medium over the past 5 decades. It's pretty refreshing to see a list of games that have gained acclaim over the years that doesn't consist solely of first person shooters, brown and bloom filled REALISTIC games and all the other crap jocktards are playing today. Seriously, every game on this list matters and has set some kind of standard for the industry in one way or another. |

LOL Solitaire. I understand; it's addicting. I'm sad to see no Minesweeper though. And it's good to see someone understand Metroid Prime in its fullest. I still find myself playing it after eight years. |
