Karl Magnus Troedsson, general manager of DICE, the development studio behind EA's Battlefield FPS series, says that the FPS genre is starting to lack innovation. Personally, the genre lost its innovation years ago and I don't really see any potential in which to truly innovate. |

You know, I'm actually a bit torn on that subject. On one hand, there does exist a hell of a lot of cookie-cutter shooters with a boring sepia filter thrown onto them, and if someone were to suggest they were a cancer to the genre I wouldn't be afraid to agree. On the other hand... Portal? Deus Ex? DayZ? Hell, you might even include Minecraft and Amnesia if you felt like stretching the definition a bit. Not to mention it seems a bit hypocritical for the developer of THE cookie-cutter brown shooter (well, one of two, anyway) criticising other cookie-cutter brown shooters for "lacking innovation". Honestly, the problem seems to originate more from a proverbial vocal minority of shooters than it does any actual majority, because it's a hell of a lot easier to generalize based on which games make the most noise in the grand scheme of things. That said, I do kinda miss Doom era shooters where the focus was more on running at 60mph and dodging shots than it was on any actual aiming beyond a vauge horizontal axis. Mobility is a very big thing that a lot of shooters these days are seriously neglecting. |

No one is that fucking stupid, or at least no one except two or three who would be so fucking gullible as to believe that a piece of fucking cardboard plays video games. Ffs, Pachter, how about you think for once? |

David Perry says, "It's not a matter of if we'll make a new Earthworm Jim game, but when we'll make one." Everyone who was involved with the first two games are extremely busy working with other companies, so they currently don't have the time to get started on it. Also, video interview with Charles Martinet from E3 2012 :3 EDIT: My Internet is messing up, so I can't tell if the video works or not D: I'll check when YouTube actually loads properly. Now I really hope that Charles will be at the EB Expo in October, too. That'll be amazing if I get to meet him personally (and get some photos because yes). Namco Bandai is pulling its own version of the retailer exclusive pre-order bonus bullshittery for their upcoming game, Ni no Kuni. The limited/collector's edition of the game is only available for US pre-orders on their website, but for each sale tier the pre-orders reach, NB will add a new incentive to the bundle. Whoops, forgot the source. Vivendi SA has been trying to find someone to purchase the 61% interest they hold on Activision. A month after the news first arose in June and it seems that no one wants to buy Activision from them. Remember when BL gave note to what Tim Schafer said about patching games on XBLA? How it costs inappropriately large amounts of money? That issue has once more reared its ugly head: Polytron, the studio that created the XBLA exclusive FEZ, is re-uploading the TU patch that had a potential of corrupting save files, simply because Microsoft would charge them "tens upon thousands of dollars" to re-certify the game with a fixed patch. Fish states that, had the game been released on Steam, they would have been able to easily fix any issue with the game without having to pay a single cent. It also turns out that, in a mention that defies all known logic, instead of Microsoft paying developers and publishers to get an exclusive, the developers are apparently paying Microsoft. Or something like that. From what I can gather from the comments here, both companies are in the wrong. Microsoft for stupid business practices related to XBLA and Polytron for agreeing to publish on XBLA in the first place. It's incredibly mind boggling to me D: Edited by Luffy Foxtrot, Jul 20 2012, 07:03 AM.

If only they hadn't made the ridiculous claim that PCs are unsuitable for platforming games and refused to publish on Steam, what a shame. Fez is a console game, not a PC game, guys! Edited by Jacquerel, Jul 20 2012, 07:28 AM.

Nope, calling bullshit on this right now. For one, why the fuck would Retro Studios be deep into development on a game that Nintendo doesn't even own the rights to? |

Most of the original staff of Rare have bailed anyway, so the company's pretty much beyond hope at this stage. You'd be better off purchasing the rights to their IPs than Rare itself, because all they really do these days is borderline shovelware. |

Borderline's being waaaaay to generous. :P Some more interesting tidbits from Nintendo; they don't care how powerful the PS4 and new Sexbox will be and they're tired of people telling them to stop making hardware. I have to wonder, who in their right mind would want Nintendo to stop making hardware considering they've revolutionised the industry time and time again, so much that the other two are clearly IMMITATING them. |

People want Ninty to shut down their hardware division? First I've heard of it. The worst you can blame them for is failing to keep third parties in line with the way they use their tech, but even that's a very new and subtle art that was basically unheard of before the Wii anyway. |
