Let's hope this means there'll be more consistency regarding their releases in Europe and Australasia. Atlus always has to run around finding another publisher to release their games, if they even get released there at all.

We don't have a "Namco are a bunch of turds" topic (yet), but they want to trademark the term "finishing move".

On the flip side, not sure if anyone here played the two PS1 originals, but a new Fear Effect has been announced. It's being developed by an indie studio as a sort of turn based strategy game in the same style as XCOM and published/okayed by Square.

We should make a new law: unless you invented the word, you can't copyright the English language.

...how many Namco fighters even use finishing moves? The only one that comes to mind is Soul Calibur, and even that was only as recently as IV.

EDIT: On another note Fuze is releasing a videogame console to compete with Sony and Microsoft in China. That's the same guys developing Red Ash, the Megaman Legends to Inafune's Mighty #9, in case the name didn't ring a bell.

For the record, this news is Bandai's Japanese headquarters attempting to trademark the Japanese term "hissatsuwaza," not the English equivalent/translation. Especially considering that, based on the game/series/whatever, the term is translated differently. Example? Yokai Watch. The super moves that the various yokai use are collectively called "hissatsuwaza" in the Japanese game. Over here in the English speaking world? They're called Soultimate Moves.

So, if this trademark actually somehow goes through, I doubt it'll affect us at all.

That aside, totally agree with you.

Lemme rephrase, then: you can't copyright language. Period.

Sega's makin' another Genesis compilation on Steam. Ordinarily I would've tuned out there and forgot about it, but it turns out there's one interesting tidbit included: Workshop support, which is kinda fuckin' groundbreaking for a bunch of emulations. Does that basically mean they're opening the floodgates for romhacks?

Article actually says it's just the current Genesis collection getting an update that'll change the interface, hub and add a bunch of features to the currently existing games. Hoping they'd add more on the pile though.
