Scott went on the record that he'll probably move to Unity for FNAF3 because FNAF2 actually stretched the limits of what the last engine was capable of (forgot what it's called, was it Multimedia Fusion?). I hear that, I really wish it was more involved. I had this discussion with someone before; why couldn't it have had you wandering around the place to avoid them? Crawl through vents, set up blockades, create traps and distractions, all so you can prolong your survival until the sun comes up? It'd be like Alien: Isolation, but on a much smaller scale and with no real end goal aside from surviving and managing resources/inventory. The entire concept of being stuck in one room and deciding when to close doors and when to turn lights on just seems incredibly stifled and overly simplistic. |

The reason NOT to have those features was because of the shitty kit he was working in. If he's switching to a proper 3d platform, than those things can be more reasonably achieved. And as far as reasons not to put another game out so soon? Market over-saturation is never a good thing in the long run of business. |

In the long run, perhaps, but I personally think it's a little early to be talking about "oversaturation" when not only is there only two games so far, they're still essentially the only games of their type. If it were literally any other subgenre I'd probably agree with you, but as it stands right now it's still not quite Guitar Hero levels of shovelling shit out with virtually no differentiation between.

Agree'd. The games are also pretty good, too. Even if they were meant mainly for LPers to give Scott free publicity, they can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys horror and tension. If the games start to become not-so-good, though, then we'll have cause for concern. |

I think they're okay and their design harkens back to the early days of CD-ROM where a lot of games used pre-rendered graphics and full motion video, especially on the PC. It has a nice charm to it, but I really don't get why it's gotten the amount of hype it has. Good for the dev, I suppose, because it gives him a chance to make a proper game out of their success. Also, only games of their kind? ![]() Welcome to 1996. |
