What? Activision, milking a series until it's own over-saturation kills it? You don't say, good sir? |

You're forgetting it's currently their only major series, since they cut off the "Hero" series. Aside from producing Marvel/Transformers licensed stuff, the only thing really making sales for Activision is Call of Duty...oh and Blizzard stuff I suppose. EDIT: Sandie beat me to it. XD |

Quotations for my sarcastic-ness. It's a bit bigger than Guitar Hero I think, it'll take a bit longer for over-saturation to kill it too... if at all. I've only bought a few of those games, and they're incredibly addictive. Edited by Havoc the Tenrec, Nov 9 2011, 05:44 AM.

To add to this games global IQ-lowering powers: An 18y/o tried to rob a 27y/o of his copy at gunpoint... Spoiler: click to toggle
Yeah. I have all the games in the series across numerous platforms. Yeah, it's fun but I worry about just how much they worked on this game and it's addictiveness. I swear, for many, it comes off as an uber drug for them. Personally, I've never been the type to waste away entire days playing any CoD game. I do play it a lot when they're first relesed of course, like any game, but I don't understand some people who can sit there and play it with every spare hour they can muster for this damn game. Not to mention the nature in which every player tends to act upon playing this game. By which I mean, damn near everyone acts like a complete cunt. I've had to say "Don't be such a CoD gamer" to many an individual whilst playing. Blops (PC) was great for this because I found dedicated servers where cunts weren't allowed. I find myself playing MW2.5 a lot less because of fucking matchmaking. On another CoD hating story, coming from a CoD gamer, I love how we were told MW"3" was getting dedicated servers only for them to eventually tell us that was only for unranked games. Oh and you have to actually go to the options and turn on the server browser to see it at all. Like a middle finger to the PC gamer, I swear. P.S Dungeon Defenders, a charming $15 downloadable tittle, is a much better game. Edited by Phantom Hammertoes, Nov 9 2011, 07:00 AM.

PS: Anything on the market with actual effort put into it, regardless of price, is a much better game. I don't get where you guys are coming from about how addictive it is; neither is the story compelling enough for me to give two shits nor is the multiplayer entertaining or intuitive enough for me to want to continue playing. Which part of the game exactly is supposed to be addictive? The only actual GOOD game in the series was the original Modern Warfare and even that barely kept me hooked long enough to beat the campaign on the hardest difficulty. There are much, much, MUCH better FPSes out there that this game doesn't even hold a candle to (hell, the original Doom or even Wolfenstein 3D have that covered). |

The only thing I liked about Call of Duty was that it did a decent job making the fights a little more adrenalin rushing. |

Pinned down somewhere and being forced to use a flawed cover system to pop heads from afar before you can get past? That IS the majority of the games, along with smatterings of going through derilict buildings and trying to guess which locked rooms enemies would flank you from. On top of this, if you played it on the hardest difficulty, enemies spawn endlessley until you actually manage to survive the onslaught long enough to make it from one end of an area to the next. That's some pretty lazy development considering they didn't use any clever level design or intelligent enemy AI to do any of this. EDIT: Nageki linked me to this: http://www.screwattack.com/news/capcom-selling-cheats-dlc This is a new low, even for Capcom. |

Isn't this rather typical of modern warfare? Keep your head down or become religious? But yes, as far as the Veteran difficulty is concerned, it is completely ridiculous in Call of Duty. I remember one chapter in the first Modern Warfare that I did in Veteran, the one where your helicopter is shot down and you need to sneak across Russian countryside to get to a new extraction point. That fucking Ultranationalist helicopter! I swear, it's omniscient! It knows precisely when to headshot you when you peak out. It sees EVERYTHING!! Edited by Arem, Nov 10 2011, 06:48 AM.

Nothing single player. I never really started the campaign on my PC version of Blops and I have yet to start it on MW2.5. Obviously, it's the competitive aspect. Not to mention, there's a certain level on teamwork that you just don't get on the console version... Probably because we have a keyboard and can communicate at will. Plus the new Support packages and blah, blah, blah. It's no Battlefield but it's not really trying to be. It's just an action-packed, adrenaline fueled GoldenEye with incredibly moddern tech thrown in. Also, being pinned down like that and then overcoming those odds, teamwork or no, always feels pretty awesome, especially when followed by a level up (unlocking something I should probably already have access too.) Also, the games where one team just flat out owns the other the entire match has been all but fixed, with only the very, very occassional "spawn into death" matches, which are still less brutal even when they happen. Also, you probably weren't playing Hardcore :P. I only play HC. It's how the game's supposed to be played, in my opinion. What's more, you come across less douchebags and more gamers on HC. This could all just be me though. |

I don't really care about its story. I'll play campaign before multiplayer just to get in some practice, but here and there are some impressive moments. Online multiplayer is what gets me into it. There's nothing like getting a killstreak and being rewarded for it. I don't have a speaker and headphones (I'm not paying the same price of a game for fucking headphones) but I know if I did I wouldn't be one of those dicks you hear at times... actually I never really see those people often. I like the overall control and interface in the COD games. It doesn't feel overdone like Killzone or Resistance or anything else like that... it feels just right. |

Ahahahaha, this is fucking gold. There's abysmal user scores across all platforms, PC is the lowest. 1.5. Though I would say it's not deserving of that score, it's nice to see some sort of public outrage at this yearly iteration thing Activision is so fond of. Perhaps they'll listen. Perhaps. I've always said that yearly Call of Duty's would get old. I only play CoD for the single player. I'm not interested in the multiplayer in the least. Edited by Arem, Nov 10 2011, 10:34 AM.

...oh wow. I'll be perfectly honest, I figured it would only be a matter of time anyway, but god damn I didn't think signs of self-oversaturation would become so evident this early. At the very least it'll be interesting to see how badly Activision flips over it sometime in the near future. |

Doesn't matter; professional reviewers are doing their bit on CoD, if you know what I mean... EDIT: You know something, the more I look into this bad review thing on Metacritic, the more I'm beginning to think that something's rotten in the state of Denmark. Edited by Arem, Nov 10 2011, 12:10 PM.

So retailers have broken another street date by releasing Skyrim a day before it's meant to be sold, a couple of small stores do it and then the big ones do as well citing the reason that they'll lose sales otherwise. As the PC versions all use Steam and Valve is (sensibly!) sticking to the date that the game is actually supposed to be playable you can play Skyrim on your games console right now (yesterday, actually) but can't on PC until tomorrow. I think this is pretty stupid to be honest, why can't the stores just sit and wait? You'd think there'd be some kind of law about that but apparently not. |
