This isn't already a thing? I know there's a few games out there that are already doing this - Battle for Middle Earth II springs to mind.

Frankly though I'm expecting EA/Activision to contest this at some point. If people keep restoring the servers they've shut down they won't have any incentive to buy into their annualized franchise bullshit anymore.
