Why GoogleTwitch didn't happen

Tl;dr They couldn't guarantee not having anti trust issues and Twitch didn't want to pay if the deal fell through.

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

If having Technical Issues with the forum please post details in the Board Improvements thread and I'll look into them ASAP

So Google was trying to push for a monopoly.

In other news, water is wet.

You know, I think was already saying that Google was trying to sink Twitch because it couldn't handle competition prior to this. Looks like I was right.

Isn't it a little too soon? We JUST got IV a few months back. They're gonna run out of crazy things to throw in the games if they keep this up.

Saints4 wasn't even meant to be a sequel either, just an expansion pack.

Trudat, but seeing as it was marketed as a full fledged game, it just feels like it's too soon. I dunno, I can't really say anything because I haven't played any of the new ones yet because I have a potato.

So Miyamoto talked to EDGE about a thing. Judging from the comments on the Escapist article, the reactions are a pretty mixed bag. Some crying out botched translation.

Basic gist is: Miyamoto is displeased with the passive attitude "casual gamers" have towards video games and wants to refocus on the "hardcore gamers."

...what?

I guess this is more of a Japanese culture thing, because as far as I can see, it's completely the other way around - the hardcores giving casuals 'tude. Oh well, if it means less handholding and more delicately crafted learning curves I'm not complaining.

So basically, they're tired of pandering to passive gamers and not getting much out of it because the mobile market has pretty much taken over from the Wii and DS as the most accessible platform to anyone, gamer or not. They want to make more lasting experiences and games that draw in people who want to play games. I can see where they're coming from; I don't think games in the Wii series are selling, though they haven't done much in the way of new content recently (Nintendo Land and Tomodachi sorta count I guess, then there's Wii Fit U and rebranding Wii Sports).

To follow up on the above, he talks about sticking with dedicated hardware for the long term.

The stockholders can stick it where the sun don't shine. Nintendo can work goddamn magic when they're not being overly cautious.
