We're gonna have to get to that point soon where no amount of resolution increases and enhanced graphics engines don't make a goddamn difference. Like I learned in Metal Gear Rising, the issue is that the human eye is only capable of detecting so much detail that anything else would not register and look the same.

Not to mention my unease with the accompanying uncanny valley...

I think the problem is less that it's unnoticable (because really, people are just going to train themselves to distinguish it either way) and more that it doesn't really make enough of a difference to justify the costs of the hardware involved, and despite what developers think of it and tout it as, it's not actually a means of compensating for their crappy artstyle - brown and bloom will look just as bad in 16k as it does in 16 bit. If anything it draws more attention to their shortcomings, like the leaves here being completely flat and rendered in clusters. It's a fool's errand through and through.

I think it says a lot that a game on a slightly upgraded Gamecube can still easily trump nearly everything else that has come out on machines a whole two generations ahead of it in hardware specs.

So after denying any plans for new hardware, Nintendo now says it's developing a new console for developing markets, with a target release window of '15/16. It'll apparently have limited release and will be targeted to the middle class. This just sounds like they're going to re-release an older console or something, or maybe tap into the cellphone market?

I bet ten rubles it's something akin to those Chinese aftermarket all-in-one Genesis consoles I see floating around Amazon and eBay.

Sega's still struggling, but it's hanging in there.

Why does it have to be AAA games? Is there something wrong with making games of a more modest calibre?

I don't have the link to it, but Jim Sterling had an insider telling him that as far as Big Gaming is concerned, they'd rather have either ALL of the money, or NONE of the money.

Also, Retro Game Challenge 2's fanslation is almost done

Speaking of Jim Sterling, he's going to be absolutely pissed about this.

Probably the failing Vita support. He made a Jimquisition about that too.

Exactly what BL said. Currently, the Vita is more or less his favourite system, so the news about Sony giving up on AAA support for it will naturally tickle a few anger points, probably in the same vein that the PSone fiasco did (which is the central topic for the video BL linked, naturally).
