Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot: Open World Games are the Future. Or something like that. Basically Ubisoft's bragging about how much money Far Cry 3 and ACIV are landing them.
I disagree, sometimes having a linear game with a "level" based design feels way more liberating to me. I loved the last two Beenox Spider-Man games because they're a great throwback to the two originals released on the PS1 back in the day. Sure, the open world Spidey games are awesome too, but it works either way.

I will only agree if those Open World games are like Blood Dragon.

Why not just Doom it and get the best of both worlds? Oh yeah, that's right, because developers today are allergic to decent level design.

The sad thing is that even in open world development people are just using this as an excuse to drop loads of money to make huge game worlds and forget to actually put anything interesting in them, and then have the nerve to make progression entirely linear anyway.

It's been way too long since an FPS actually had decent level design.

So, to be perfectly blunt, Toshihiro Nagoshi, the top dog in regards to Yakuza, hates the Grand Theft Auto franchise. He thinks they are brilliantly made games. He just doesn't like them.

So why does he hate it despite thinking it's an excellent game? It's all in what the game promotes. "I simply can't bring myself to promote the emotion that killing is fun and committing crimes is fun." Nagoshi said. You might think that it seems a little hypocritical coming from a man who heads a game series about Japanese gangers and has a combat system with large men beating the crap out of each other in the streets using their fists and random objects.

Couldn't it be because Yakuza has a real story line besides GTA's "FUCK SHIT UP"?

I wish more devs were honest like this; there are a bunch of games I personally don't like, but I believe are well made games and are fine for their target audience.

There's also the fact that Yakuza shows that the life of crime isn't all its cracked up to be, if Kazuma's trying to get out of the life throughout the series is any indication.

In a video interview with Shuhei Yoshida, he says that for the benefit of the industry, Nintendo absolutely needs to be successful. He also owns two Wii U consoles and regularly plays it with his daughters.

Ninty consoles are practically successes by default - the WiiU is the first console they've ever sold at a loss, and even then they make their hardware losses back on a single game sold (and really, who in god's name buys a videogame console without even one game to go with it?). That's not even accounting for the parts becoming cheaper to manufacture over time, either.

This is a revelation that will surprise literally nobody in the known universe. 'bout time we got one using Skyrim's engine, though.
