Acuntivision: Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, and True Crime are all dead.

Makes sense: none of them have "Duty" or "Call" in the title...

This is the first I hear about a new True Crime game; and now I'm even more pissed than I was a few minutes ago. Thanks for making my day worse, Kotick.

You're not, True Crime is one of the best free roaming games on the market, rivalling GTA despite the series' lack of experience in the field.

Regardless, this is typical Activision BS, although WHY they're cancelling their "Hero" franchise considering it's about as much a breadwinner as Cock of Doody is is beyond me. The fact that Rock Band is a superior and waaaaay more fun game ANYWAY might have something to do with it, or maybe it's the fact that Kotick actually had the gall to slam Rock Band in public BY NAME. Whatever the case, these guys are working really hard at killing all interest their consumers and customers have in them. In MY eyes, the only thing keeping me interested is their Marvel licenses.

Also, DJ Hero was pretty pimp, it's too bad that's going to die as well. Oh well, just another loss for Activision and a win for us. Shame about True Crime, but maybe someone else will pick it up?

Good, I was tired of GH cheating wins at awards for "best soundtrack." However it doesn't help that RB can still win these awards. :/

Ok, first off, let the records show I'm not a CoD fan boy, and second, I enjoy playing both games.

But the way I see it, is it's become a gimmick. It was fun and even cute when it was just guitar controllers, then it got a little more entertaining when they made drums and a mic...but now turn tables, a keyboard, and $300+ MIDI guitars and keyboards and drums?

To be honest, the music genre of games never lasts long. DDR anyone? StepMania anyone? Samba de Amigo? Space Channel 5?

Sure, I'm miffed that True Crimes is gonna die, I really loved that game, but to be honest, and in my opinion, I'm kinda glad to see GH die out. It had a good run, I had a lot of fun playing it, I jammed to some old faves, and discovered new ones. But I just get sick of kids now thinking they can jam on a real guitar, drums, or keyboard because they played Guitar Hero and such. It's been stated that FPS are the in game this year, even such big names titles like Gran Turismo and Forza are hurting due to lack of fan base.

It had a good run. But it was pretty much DDR with a guitar and un-original music.

This has been stated as my personal opinion.

When a series gets more sequels than Final Fantasy in the space of five years, then it should go without saying that you're oversaturating the market way too fucking much. Most of them weren't even substantial games, they honestly thought they could dedicate entire games to a single band and hope the longetivity would be enough to justify a hundred-buck investment plus guitar. If there's any specific reason Guitar Hero died out, it's because Activition were so adamant in selling all of these things at full game price whereas any other sane developer would've released it as DLC for 5-10 bucks at the very most.

The franchise was milked for every single cent it was worth and bled dry, in other words. Typical Activision money fetishism. If this leads to CoD dissolving or abandoning them somewhere later down the line leaving Activision without a leg to stand on, I'll be a very happy man. The way they practice business is literally evil and shouldn't be tolerated in the industry.

EDIT: Speak of the motherfucking devil. Clearly Activision hasn't learned a goddamned thing at all from this, although at this stage it isn't terribly surprising. They really are bleeding all their franchises down to the bone.

In all honesty, I think this is what the entire industry has "evolved" into; short lasting fads that consumers buy into until it's completely burned out. Developers fail more and more, year after year, in developing an eternal, long lasting franchise because they're either too afraid to take risks, or are too absorbed in making easy money off of disposable games. The worst part is that when other developers see one developer's success, they imitate, sometimes very poorly, which only helps to speed up the burning out of the fad.

In all honesty, I think Harmonix/Activision had the idea with Rock Band in that they attempt to keep each individual release of a franchise alive as long as possible with a constant stream of DLC releases and "Track Packs" which merely function as expansion packs and CAN be obtained through DLC anyway (I think). The "Hero" franchise expanded into a whopping 25 games, half of which are part of the main Guitar Hero series, whereas Rock Band only has about a third of that number, with only 3 games being part of the main series. Not only this, but the actual games evolved and improved on the gameplay, making it more and more of a proper simulation game. Rock Band 3's guitars actually have strings, you can have up to three vocalists on a song and the implementation of a keyboard that can also be used as a keytar is pretty ingenious if you ask me.

In the end, it's just Activision's complete lack of vision and it's core goal of making as much money as possible with as little effort put into it. I'm sorry but they've just bought themselves the farm with what they've done. For a company so big, that's worked so hard to get to where it is today, they sure as hell lack a basic understanding of how the proper business model should function. Remember back when EA was the ultimate evil? Notice how they majorly picked up their act when shit got real? If you ask me, right now, EA is probably the best publisher next to Sega. Activision really needs to learn a few things from them if they want to survive in an already FAILING market (yes, I predict there will be a second videogame crash soon), and their first order of business is booting Kotick's ass out onto the streets.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

The franchise massacre continues. First GH, then True Crime and CoD... and now Activision's looking set to run Spyro straight into the ground.

I'm honestly stunned. Franchise murder of this degree is uncharacteristic even from Activision. What the hell is going on? Are they trying to lose every single supporter they have left?

I was originally intrigued by the prospect of a new Spyro game, after the bullshit that was the Legend of Spyro series. Didn't like that series at all.

All I can say now is: "WHAT THE FUCK?!"
