Imagi, the company behind 2007's TMNT film as well as Astro Boy have been working on a new, CG animated Gatchaman movie, to be released some time in 2011. The first trailer for this was released back in 2007.

After that, more recenly, two more trailers were released.

Now, I'm not sure which one of the two came first, but one obviously showcases the main cast with a more classic look from the anime, while the other decks them out in more futuristic, sci-fi gear. Some people are claiming the classic trailer is more recent and will be the final design used in the movie, but I'm skeptical since it seems like more work went into the other one. This movie has gone through several delays and productional hiccups due to Imagi's financial problems, but according to them it will be a definite release.

Now, I know a lot of people weren't very receptive to their adaptation of Astro Boy, but I thought it was pretty good for a more modernised and Westernised adaptation of a classic franchise, especially one not so popular in the West. This in turn leads me to believe they'll do a pretty decent job of Gatchaman, and I'm personally looking forward to seeing it.

I didn't particularly mind the new Astro Boy film (although I never could get over the fact that it approached Family Guy-esque levels of political rhetoric), but this looks to trump Astro Boy several times over. :3

I dunno, I'm pretty sure the Astro Boy movie was pretty much preaching the same message of "robots are people too" and "violence solves nothing" as the 2k3 anime did.

There was that, true, but did you notice how the main villain was a warmonger who sounded an awful lot like Dick Cheyney?

Not saying it's a bad movie, it was pretty good, but the political undertones stuck out for me like a bull in a china shop. :P

I sincerely hope that it will use the more classic Gatchaman anime looks as that was what I grew up with. Hell, it was the first cartoon me and my older bro would sneak out to a friend's house to watch. :D Of course, it was called G-Force back then.

That being said, I won't cry if the more sci-fi looking one of the second trailer ends up being the one they use, particularly because Galactor (or whatever he was called before) looks great. The G-Force team does as well.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

I recently uncovered some pretty bad news regarding this and Imagi in general:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2011/06/21-1/imagi-gatchaman-cg-movie-looked-dead-coffin-now-nailed-shut

Imagie pretty much went belly up and gave away all their licenses. They've now sort of restarted by producing CG shows for the Chinese market. So yeah, the Gatchaman remake is dead. ;-;
