I believe we all know what Kinect for Xbox 360 is, but I'll try my best to summarise for those who have not yet heard of it. These words come from my own memory; and will hold some form of officialness. Kinect for Xbox 360 is Microsoft's delve into motion control gaming with their mindset on 'No controller required'. Instead, you, the player, is the controller. Wacky, right? Kinect is designed to track your skeletal structure, which amounts to around 12 joints, IIRC. I had originally assumed that, as a result, lighting wouldn't be a problem. A recent video on Inside Xbox has proven me wrong by a long shot. I am not happy. It's the lighting issue that made the EyeToy and PlayStation Eye fail in the first place. Anyway, Kinect ships in the US around the 12th of November, with 12 launch titles. Including Kinectimals, a pet simulator with tigers. Think Nintendogs, except these pets could kill you if they were real and not 'children'. You also have Dance Central, a dancing game made by Harmonix, the brains behind the Rock Band games. I would say Kinect Adventures, but that doesn't count as that comes with the camera. Oh; and Sonic Free Riders. Yes, the Sonic Riders series has ditched not only the Gamecube, but now the PS2 and Wii to become a 360 exclusive. Anyway, Xbox Australia is showing off Kinect at the Westfield shopping centre in Parramatta this Thursday to Sunday, so I plan to go try it out. Opinions shall soon follow. Begin discussion! |

Anyone else getting it? I had it pre-ordered on Amazon back in August, so it only cost me $130 at the time.... though it ships 4 days after launch, which really sucks. Getting pretty hyped up for Sonic Riders. |

Step-father is apparently buying the camera once it launches in Aus roughly a week after the US release. I think it has a date of November 16th here, while I'm pretty sure it launches on the 4th in the US. |

I thought about getting it eventually. Let me know how it works out and that will help me with the actual decision of getting it in the future. |

Will do. Looks like the arrival date was a lie. It suddenly changed to arrive on the day it comes out. So most likely tomorrow, or the day after.I should be getting "Sonic Free Riders", (Kinect Adventures comes with the camera), and supposedly "Your Shape Fitness Evolved" tomorrow too. Though I'm afraid you'll never get any review of the dance games from me... those look absolutely retarded. XD I feel all hyped up. |

Ok, so everything I ordered came in today. First I'd like to ask a question, is everyone else not able to play with others online for a while now? I can log in online and download demos still, but can't connect to play with anyone I see... --------- So, In general Hate: 1. **Not enough different voice commands available.** Where's the "xbox - shutdown" command? I know, exploitable, but I thought it recognized a specific person's voice. 2. There's enough room for 2 people, but I kinda wish it went even wider. Love: 1. When it works with the game it came with, and the Fitness game. Sonic Free Riders is a different story. 2. Being able to use voice and my hands with the interface 3. Great Exercise --------------- Sonic Free Riders Hate: 1. How do you fucking pause? 2. Or quit the game without having to use the controller? 3. HOW DO I SKIP EMBARASSINGLY BAD CUT SCENES? 4. Leaning backward.... you're lucky if you move to the other side at all. you pretty much have to switch to the other stance if you want to turn directions, probably THE WORST thing about the game. 5. The voices and acting, well most of the voices. Sonic's even cockier attitude is making me hate him... Shadow literally sounds like an emo fag now. Amy Rose is even worse, she sounds like Minnie Mouse. Cream sounds less shy and somehow even more annoying polite... to the extreme. Tails sounds a little better, but seriously... give a fucking boy the voice role of Tails, is that logic hard to comprehend? Jet's voice is really bad, but not nearly as bad as it used to be. This is one game where it would be appropriate to make everyone a goddamn mute. I can't tell what's worse, the majority of the voices, or the actual acting... 6. The story seems as retarded as the other games from the series, and doing it with a lazy slideshow is something I would expect from a NDS game, not a Kinect game. 7. Jumping is only possible when you get near a ramp. At this point, you have to bend down to charge, and jump up on the ramp to jump at all. 8. Some weapons work sort of well, others don't. The soda can is the worst to deal with. 9. When I played this game, I felt sort of impressed when I first started, but that was because I hadn't played the other two games I bought yet. This game does not recognize your body as well as the other launch games do. The comparison is that big. 10. When you play the ice level, there's a point where you drive a toboggan or snowmobile. You play it the same you you'd probably play that "Joy Ride" game from kinect, like a car. Except half of the time you replay it, the controls will inverse on you, and you have to turn right to turn left... Love: 1. Sticking out your hand to collect rings is pretty neat. 2, I don't know what all the fuss over the Interface menu was about. I thought it was fine. 3. I haven't tried that couples riding yet, but I thought that looked pretty cool. --------------- The other two games I got - Kinect Adventures and Fitness Evolved where great. Except in the fitness game, hitting blocks isn't as fun as it looked, you have to hit it from a specific location for it to actually register your hit. Kinect Adventures was nearly perfect, except it needs more mini games, and there's lag that effects gameplay on the dodgeball-like event. The Fitness game had barely any lag. Sonic Free Riders didn't have too much lag was noticeable (except in jump timing maybe), because you're not seeing your own body move much, and the characters hardly ever freely mimic your actions unless it's near a specific part of the course. Even then, it's limited by what's supposed to be done. If they patch up Sonic Free riders so that your back can calibrate in a way that'll actually make you move in the other direction without having to switch stances all the time, it might be more playable. |

I can relate with the first joke. My family hardly wants to get in on it. Or maybe it's because they've had a headache all week, I don't know. You can tell it whether or not you want it to take pictures on games.
He was standing right under a low fan, kind of a freak accident. I managed to make a video of some gameplay... if you can even see the screen. Also I figured out that you can skip scenes. You need to wave at the screen, and figure out where the center is and keep your hand on the center for a few seconds. Edited by Eternally Fallen, Aug 11 2011, 09:11 AM.

You know, I've been playing the Fitness game twice a day, and I feel a lot better lately. That "game" really is a great way to get in shape or just feel better in general. |
