I actually enjoyed the demo. I thought the controls were a lot easy once I let go of my notion of how DMC4 played an took a second to get use to it. The light seemed a little hard to deal with at first, but I guess I'm okay with it. No headache yet :) And also, Vergil's add-on you get when you preorder looks pretty interesting. It seems like he has a lot of DMC3 moves. |

Being an epileptic, it made me very uncomfortable. While not to the point of a seizure, it was almost too much. |

GameTrailers just reviewed the game as it came out today, and gave it a very similar rating to Devil May Cry 4. DMC4: 8.6 DmC: 8.5 Take that for how you will. I watched the review and I have to admit, it looks interesting. Not nearly enough for me to get it at the current price, but maybe when it drops below the 30 dollar mark. Maybe. Who knows? Maybe they'll release another version where Vergil is included in his own DLC. Edited by Arem, Jan 16 2013, 02:00 AM.

Capcom paid them off. But who actually gives a fuck about GameTrailers' reviews? |

![]() So certain are you... I actually take GameTrailers reviews generally more seriously because they USUALLY line up with my own tastes and reviewing pillars. There are exceptions to that, let me tell you. Well, playing the demo myself, my REAL complaint was my inability to see some parts because of the lighting. So yeah, I might get it either used or when it drops in price below the 30 dollar point. EDIT: Oh god, Ninja Theory could NOT resist. EDIT2: Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games came out in defense of DmC on Twitter. Taken from this site, translated from Italian.
Well, damn. Edited by Arem, Jan 16 2013, 10:25 AM.

Jim Sterling gave it a 9/10, calling it fun and slick. Adam Sessler only gives it a 3/5 however, not liking how juvenile the game is. Personally the game looks really fun, but as I've never played one before and since I'm on a tighter budget nowadays, I think I'll pass for now. |

First of all, I've played the game/beat it and have to say that the game deserves far more praise than what it's getting. The story is very well written, dialogue on one hand is a little off as far as one liners, but it's actually pretty well written and doesn't leave you with near as many questions or suspicions as the other titles do. The combat is fresh and the upgrade system is fully Devil May Cry in fashion, as well as the newer weapon additions/and ability to sell the upgrades back if you want to get more abilities in a particular weapon. Very fun and strategic. The lighting versus the demo is VERY different. the demo level was redone with a lot better lighting and the overall "darker" parts have seemingly been color redone in general, as well as an easier gamma shader in case you need that. Really loved the colors, especially since you can see the detail in Vergil's jacket in all of their bluish hues. The platforming will be stiff to some people in certain areas, but when you get use to the level layout and combinations of buttons to get from point A to point B, the game will change it up and give you something new to try. Also, the equip system isn't in it's own thing, and weapons can be switched in game without going to a menu, so fast switching for all the weapons is possible. Also Arem, Vergil get's his own DLC, due out in February. I pre-ordered and got the code for this already. In all, the story was top-par, taking the time to explain most of the questions and cement the universe as well as give us visual aids for many of the things you were wondering. Without spoiling a lot, it clearly shows us the past events that lead up to the game, and takes it's time to make sure you know what the enemies names are, what they did, and why you are ultimately trying to take them out. They also make sure to get you investing some emotional points into the characters and evolve/devolve certain characters from what you would expect. And yes, the easter egg for old/classic Dante. Priceless :) All in all, I was super pleased with this game and wanted it to be an "Okay, it's over and that was alright." But I actually think it ended with a high note and a great point to continue the series should they choose to do so. I hope they do, of course. If you've played it, you will instantly feel the combat to be great, with a little bit of adjustment in terms of being faster. If you haven't played one, then I suggest to try the demo and if you like the demo in any bit, the game will certainly be better than the demo. Edited by Arcana Fang, Jan 18 2013, 12:59 AM.

Here's an interesting twist. /v/ campaigns against Capcom with their distaste for DmC, and instead of playing into Capcom's game, they follow their rules while giving them a collective FUCKYOU. ![]() ![]() |

And yet it still supports Capcom. :| And I'm aware of the Vergil DLC as well. I also stand by what I say that the character design of Vergil reminds me of Michael Fassbender. Edited by Arem, Jan 19 2013, 11:53 AM.

That's not the point. Capcom doesn't treat its franchises like any sane developer should - rather than build off of constructive feedback and a little fan input when they fuck something up, they outright hold their own IPs hostage and threaten to cancel them if more people don't buy mediocre garbage. They're not looking for gamers as consumers when it comes right down to it, they're looking for a flock of sheep that'll buy their games no matter what. And while I think at this stage it's a stupid fuckin' idea to try and reason with Capcom at this stage, honestly, if I had to I'd funnel their profits towards something people actually do give a shit about. And that's apparently what /v/ thinks, too. That said it's mighty convenient the HD collection hasn't been out long, because I don't think ol' Cappy would've noticed if sales of DMC4 or any of the other games in the HD collection spiked abruptly like that. It's a crying shame the same couldn't be said of Megaman before they fell back into 8-bit fetishism again. |

I figured that, but I think Capcom won't look at it that way. They'll just see it as income...and that's it. |

I got the game yesterday. I'm up to mission 8, but daym I am enjoying the shit out of it. The second boss battle was intense; my favourite part of the story so far despite the cringey in-battle dialogue. Stoked to unlock Heaven and Hell mode, that's gonna be one hell of a challenge. [not attempting to pun Dante's humour here] +5 for the soundtrack too. |
