VIDEO NOT FOUND. On that note, I saw the words "younger Dante" and cringed. The last thing I want is another prequel like 3. But hey, I'll reserve judgement until I actually get to SEE the trailer, or any gameplay footage for that matter. |

It's no trick, Psycho. The Dante we know...is dead. Now Edward Cullen is Dante. And what's worse: it's not a sequel or a prequel...IT'S A REBOOT!! Capcom isn't even making this game: the people who did Heavenly Sword are. EDIT: OH god it's even better:

"Reboot"? Devil May Cry needs a reboot? You could do anything involving Sparda and his life, or a sequel to DMC2, or touch on what happened to Nero since DMC4... A reboot? With an asshole playing Dante and something as trite as having a "Limbo City"? It's like the game is just spitting at you "HEY ASSHOLE, DID YOU KNOW THE DANTE IS PART HELLSPAWN AND PART HUMAN?" |

Hahaha, oh Capcom, how low you've gone. First they fuck up Street Fighter, with their shit-tastic 3D rendition of SSF2T, but slapping the number 4 on it, then they go ahead and release an expansion pack to it as a full game. Next, when you think they couldn't make Lost Planet any more boring than it is, they go and make the second game just that. Bionic Commando was a disaster, and Dark Void was one of the most overhyped piles of shit of all time. Finally, there's the garbage that is Resident Evil 5, and how the series will be rebooted from then on. Capcom has made it their personal goal to tarnish any good name they've made for themselves over the past three decades or so for the sake of making a quick buck. It's no surprise that they're taking this route with DMC, which has already been floundering as a series due to the lack of originality and interesting hook since the second game. That has got to be the ugliest rendition of Dante I have EVER seen, creative license or no. I'm done giving these fuckers my money for empty promises and flat out lies. I knew how full of shit Capcom was the day I heard they completely removed the credits from the Wii port of Okami because it had Clover Studios' logo at the end of it, citing some bullshit about "missing source code". |

While you and I have our differences regarding 2, 3 and 4, I don't have any argument over this one. At least in 3 when they teenified Dante, they kept SOMETHING of the original, like being a non-smoker AND having that building of his, let alone the white hair. :P This new guy is just a poser. Clearly Ninja Theory and Capcom is just fucking us over. |

Nico from SoaH came upon this interesting little piece of information.
Considering that Ninja Theory is indeed a British company, and that there is a British insignia on "Dante's" new coat, isn't this just a bit too much of a coincidence? Farewell, Dante. We had great times with you bringing the Apocalypse back on demonic hordes. |

You know, I want to take a few steps back about what I said here. Me and Polter were talking the other day and it just got me thinking more and more about the potential this game has. Let's take a look at what we've got and what we could expect from it. Okay, so people have this mindset that DMC is supposed to represent a lot of things. A snarky protagonist, gothic architecture, fast paced gameplay, a storyline involving demons...that's what we know in a nutshell. Now, while It's also become apparent that developers (mostly Japanese developers) like trying out new things. They want to make a new title, have a new gimmic, whatever, you guys get the idea. The problem is, these guys tend to pussy out because they believe no one will buy their new IP. So what do they do? They slap on the name of an already existing franchise and hope it sells like hotcakes because modern gamers are too stupid to care about what they're buying since they'll spend tons of money on something as long as their favourite mascot is on the front cover. It's like "Wolverine Advertising" only it's not as ludicrous and commonplace in the gaming industry. Now, until we see some gameplay, it'd be hard to judge this game harshly. However, if the gameplay turns out ot be pretty damn spectacular, I'm just going to do to this what I did with Final Fantasy XII; pretend it's not a part of the franchise it is attached to and just treat it like a whole new thing. This game can actually work and be pretty damn fun, it just doesn't have to be the DMC you're familiar with. Also, funny theory here; what if this turns out to be not the real Dante? Or how about, as Polter suggested to me, "Devil May Cry: Shattered Dimensions"...think about it. ;D |

Read and watch this. Then this. Now convince me they know what they are doing. It's not Devil May Cry anymore. It's Dante MUST Cry. |

The guy who posted the second video has the spelling abilities of a second grader, I think you need a better example. And honestly, both those videos basically only point out what's already been said. I'd prefer to see actual gameplay or real cutscenes if, you know, those actually existed. You know, there's three things that I loved the most about the DMC games I've played (which is extensive playthroughs of all four of them) and the following are: 1. DMC1's AI. It was the best AI I've seen in an action game since...well, hell, I don't even know. Elites? Space Pirate Troopers? The game continuously throws the same enemies at you for the entirety of it, and yet over time they develop unique patterns and have various means of attack that aren't as simple as "Press button to dodge". They fought smart, and they got smarter. Nothing like DMC3 which essentially had only one or two patterns for each enemy and only bothered to make enemies more difficult by either throwing more at you at once or throwing a bunch of nigh-invulnerable enemies at you with even more annoying flak as backup. Just the basic puppets from DMC1 could wipe you out with a moment's notice if they got the drop on you, and since they varied their attack patterns all the time you had to pretty much keep track of every single one at once as opposed to "OH, THAT GUY JUMPED OFF SCREEN, TIME TO LISTEN TO THE SOUND CUE...OR JUST IGNORE HIM AND JUMP OR GET INVULNERABILITY FRAMES WHENEVER I SEE SOMETHING WEIRD HAPPEN NEAR ME". The only time I ever had to work for ranks in DMC3 or 4 was when they tossed something completely absurd at me with an asshole pattern, like those demonic angels from DMC3 with the invulnerable wings and the exploding javelins. 2. DMC1's Weapon System. You had four weapons: A weak sword that automatically gets overshadowed by the next weapon you get, a super fast electric sword, slow and powerful flaming gauntlets and greaves, and a hefty sword with no special properties aside from smashing people's skulls in much more efficiently than the other weapons in your armory. And every weapon was useful for different situations, and some enemies were resistant to an element and some were weak. And the best part? Unique Devil Triggers for each new weapon you pick up, with unique powers you can buy. Now, the guns were basically just upgrades through and through, but if given a little love like DMC's Devil Arms they could become formidable parts of any devil hunter's standard equipment. Sure, DMC2 pumped up ranged weapons a bit by making them sustain your rank, but those were weak. And then there was DMC3 which gave you 5 different ranged weapons, but you could only use 2 of them at a time ever (and you pretty much decided which weapons worked well with your style and never switched them anyways. Same seems to fit with the Devil Arms.) And then there was DMC4 which...I just try to pretend it had more weapon customization than it did. It was more of a mess of random guns than anything (And if I recall, that was only for Dante. What's-his-face had a spectral arm or something. Hell, I think Dante was the only guy with more than one Devil Arm as well...) 3. DMC2's Setting. Okay, the customizable Devil Triggers were cool (though I preferred DMC1's style), and pretty much all the weapons were upgrades to one another. However, there was nothing more cool than traveling through Western European-styled cities, running across rooftops and leaping through the air to perform a takedown on the flying enemies, and battling on and under bridges with the flak. It was truly a breathtaking experience, and made DMC2 stand out to me in magazines as opposed to the two titles standing before and after it. And unrelated, Dante was cool in this one, though I preferred his not-taking-shit demeanor in the first one better (certainly better than "LOOK AT ME BE GOOFY AND RIDE ON ROCKET MISSILES AND DO FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND SOMERSAULTS WHILE FIGHTING TEN GUYS WITH A SWORD AND PISTOLS OH MAN WHAT A CRAZY PARTY" that DMC3 and 4 portrayed him as.) If I can get just those three aspects: An advanced AI; a great, smart, tactical weapon system complete with unique Devil Triggers; and a cool, nice to look at, and nice to fight on setting; That would be awesome. It'd basically be DMC1 mixed with DMC2. Sue me. |
