I decided to pull all the text from the other topic and shove it in here to make this more of a generic topic regarding online RPGing and such. So, in efforts to have things all cool, all general TRPG discussion can go here when it comes to discussing the creation, running of, and playing of campaigns. I'd advise that if you've got a bit of experience running or playing TRPGs that you can post your stuff here. As it stands, the rest of this post (which is a reiteration of stuff in the previous existing topic) will be dedicated to listing my general experience in what kind of games and rule systems I am familiar with: It'd be nice to have a little tabletop gaming group of our own since we seem like the kind of people who appreciate both number crunching and roleplaying in equilibrium. So I question a great deal of many things of you potential gamers. What kind of game do you wish to play? And think carefully, for it decides a great many decisions your kind and loving GM will have to make. There are a variety of genres and even more settings to choose from. Victorian steampunk, giant mecha space opera, medieval fantasy adventure, cyberpunk mystery, etc. Now, I've only played with a handful of systems, but I'm familiar with a good deal more. Of what I've played: Dungeons and Dragons Edition 3.x, 4, and Castles and Crusades Exalted What I'm also familiar with: Dungeons and Dragons Edition BECM, AD&D2, and Pathfinder Shadowrun Editions 3 and 4 The New World of Darkness Battletech and MechWarrior Mekton Zeta Warhammer Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy, and Fantasy Role Play Palladium RPGs (Rifts, TMNT, Palladium World) Deadlands Spirit of the Century Bliss Stage Star Wars d20 and Saga Edition Paranoia Big Eyes, Small Mouths Of these, the most basic settings include: Fantasy: Dungeons and Dragons, Exalted, Warhammer Fantasy Role Play, Palladium World Gothic: World of Darkness, Warhammer Dark Heresy Sci-Fi: Shadowrun, Battletech, Mekton Zeta, Warhammer Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader, Rifts, Star Wars, Paranoia, Bliss Stage Modernistic: TMNT, World of Darkness, Mekton Zeta, Bliss Stage, Spirit of the Century, Deadlands Anything if properly handled: Mekton Zeta, Big Eyes Small Mouths, Rifts, Spirit of the Century, World of Darkness Literally Anything: Mekton Zeta, Big Eyes Small Mouths Of these, the most basic genres (as most embraced by their game) include: High Fantasy: Exalted, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer Fantasy Role Play, Palladium World Low Fantasy: Dungeons and Dragons, Palladium World, Deadlands Mecha: Battletech, Mekton Zeta, Bliss Stage Adventure: Spirit of the Century, Dungeons and Dragons, Exalted, Star Wars, Palladium, Deadlands, Rogue Trader, Rifts Mystery: World of Darkness, Paranoia, Shadowrun, Bliss Stage, Dark Heresy Action: Mekton Zeta, Exalted, Rifts, Spirit of the Century, Battletech, Rogue Trader, Star Wars Horror: Bliss Stage, World of Darkness, Rifts, Deadlands Literally Anything: Mekton Zeta, Big Eyes Small Mouths I also know that someone pulled off a Fallout RPG based on the first two games and Tactics, I've been mulling around the idea of pulling off a Final Fantasy d20 based around the systems of 5, 11, and Tactics, I've been wanting to do something based around Super Mario Bros, and if anyone would even want to do SoaH-styled then Big Eyes Small Mouths seems to be a reasonable choice since its customization options are vast. Speaking of vast customization, Mekton Zeta will let you create virtually any mecha you want, and Big Eyes Small Mouths is based around having a simple system and allowing you to make any genre of character you wish with virtually any power you can think of. In order of the number crunchiest to the roleplaying fluffiest, I think the list goes as follows: Battletech/MechWarrior Mekton Zeta Palladium Dungeons and Dragons 3.x & 4, Star Wars, Pathfinder Shadowrun Exalted World of Darkness Warhammer BESM Deadlands Spirit of the Century Dungeons and Dragons BECM & 2 Castles and Crusades Paranoia Bliss Stage So, any thoughts on matters? If anyone wants to GM anything, you can also speak up about that. |
