Hi there, I'm basic algebra, and I'm here to tell you that (A + B + C) > A, even if A > B & A > C. You're trying to suggest that losing the audiences (and subsequently the extra money) from at least two entire gaming platforms that have much higher attach rates than the WiiU does (even if it has the excuse of being only a few months old) is a good thing for Sega, when the only way that would even remotely be possible is if 1) Nintendo did all their publicity for them (and considering Sega left a fully complete and localized port of Anarchy Reigns to die for half a year because they'd failed to advertise it, only to release it with literally zero fanfare anyway, it's something they could definently stand to take notes on), and 2) Nintendo threw their money printer at them (which considering the system has been selling almost exclusively on Monster Hunter and Lego City for the better part of at least a month now, their software front is desperate enough for third party support that I admittedly wouldn't rule that out). I'm as much a Ninty fan as you guys, I'm glad to have more reasons to justify my WiiU purchase and you know I never have anything against you personally, but this train of logic is fucking stupid and I can't stand to see people I think highly of perpetuating it. You don't just cut entire demographs out like that as if it's making you more money than before, that's not even physically possible. EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot. Anyone here bought the mobile ports of Sonic 1 here? Because there's been a freaking massive update courtesy of Taxman of Sonic CD XBLA fame. Spindash capability, playable Tails (alone and following Sonic) and Knux with additional routes for both, redone Special Stages and I'm pretty sure there was a usable debug mode and Super Sonic somewhere in there too. Fabulous Homosexual Posts: 6,262 Group: Elite Member #59 Joined: November 9, 2009	All I know is that I have a hard time believing that SEGA has the money to do a multiplatform release for now, especially since people gripped about Sonic Generations enough, and just whined more when no DLC happened for it. And like I've said before, I saw this coming for a long time.

Firstly, people are dropping support for Sony and Microsoft like flies regarding nextgen consoles due to the different foot-in-mouth features and services they have announced for their boxes. It doesn't help that those currentgen consoles are in that awkward phase of being phased-out in favor of nextgen, where their bigger in-development titles are being shifted to a newer platform. Secondly, it actually does cost considerably more to publish for additional consoles, as there are things like software licenses to run on different boxes, along with advertizing and manufacturing costs. It is a logical assumption that these do not cost as much if you are developing your mascot game second party instead of third party, as you would have direct support from your console's host company. So no BL, this is not a foolish decision on SEGA's part, who are not doing great financially. It's among their most intelligent ones of late for the survival of their business. While the last few third-party Sonic games have been successful, mainly Racing Transformed and Generations, those were rather unique cases that likely could not be recreated sometime soon. (one not being a core sonic game, just a very solid racer; the other being complete fanservice that both would sell and HAD to sell) If anything, they should remain second party for a few years and otherwise release what they can on PC via Steam. Steam has relatively low costs to release on compared to releasing on two major consoles, and know their customer base far better too. Edited by Ekoi, May 20 2013, 08:21 PM.

Unless a lot of people are actually going to be trading their old in for their new it's not like their consoles suddenly stop existing. I must have missed the part where you have to make a seperate ad campaign for every platform. That being said if Sega actually bothered making proper ad campaigns in the first place (which to the best of my knowledge Sega hasn't done so in the west since Unleashed), you'd have a lot more people buying their games to cover all the costs associated with it. These games would have made a lot more money if Sega didn't routinely send them out to die thinking brand power alone is going to help them forever. Sega isn't even in THAT much trouble financially either, just to get that out there.

I agree it had to go to one console exclusivity to survive, not sure Nintendo was the best choice though.
