Sonic 2 HD has DRM.

Instead, many people downloaded the demo yesterday and went to extract it from its ZIP archive only to be stopped by a warning from their anti-virus software. No, the game does not contain a trojan. Instead, antivirus software reacted to the way the game’s code is obfuscated to prevent reverse-engineering. Wait a second. The code is obfuscated to prevent reverse-engineering? The entire game engine would not exist were it not for the efforts of Sonic community members past and present reverse-engineering the original Sonic games and documenting their functions. The hypocrisy here is staggering. But that’s not even the most insulting part. Any attempt to modify any of the game’s files presents you with the following screen:

The license mentioned in the screen doesn’t even exist. It’s nowhere in any of the game’s documentation and is not presented upon starting the game. And, again, the engine this game runs on is based on reverse-engineered code. The entire project owes its existence to a community built around collaboration, the freedom of information, the idea of building on previous work, and yet the game actively takes a stand against that. The entire project has become at odds with the philosophical foundations of the community that birthed it.

DRM? In a fucking fangame? That is essentially an upscaled pixel-for-pixel remake that runs off stolen code from an existing game anyway? Who the hell even does that?

I can't see the image and the link doesn't work because apparently Sonic Retro's domain license expired two days ago, on the 29th.

It seems to be working fine on my end. Either way, I just read through the entire thing and I'm neither surprised by anything that comes out of Sonic Retro, nor am I surprised by dickery in a fangame. I remember telling someone this YEARS ago, but I've noticed a trend with regards to fangames and self funded independant work on videogames; larger projects with a team of people tend to be less likely to see the light of day as opposed to something simpler and maybe being run by only one person. How many hyped up, GOOD Sonic fangames have ever come into complete fruition? Now turn around and tell me how successful something like Cave Story is.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

Oh boy, just look at all that fanwank *grabs 20 buckets of popcorn*

Personally, the only thing that bothers me is the Skylanders inspiration. Aside from that, I'd totally be cool with open worlds and some of the other things listed there. That said, it's a TSSZ "source," so yea. Find the biggest fucking grain of salt you can.

Sega is apparently busy rebooting the Sonic franchise after it was revealed earlier last week that the company has suffered huge financial losses. The rumour stems from TSSZ
Stopped reading right here.

If this is true, I'll just say what I said to someone on Facebook; not sure if want, though if you ask me, they've technically been doing this for years considering Sonic gets about as much character development as The Smurfs.

Except that's the entire target demographic for Sonic. It's always been for kids, regardless of how hard or easy each game has been.

Yeah well that fanbase grew up. Satam was a bit arguable-y darker, and kids still love the shit out of it.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 - Episode II is launching on Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Store on the 16th May. Source. This is, so far, only Japan's release date, as there is currently not an official launch date confirmation post on the SEGA Blogs.

EDIT: According to this post on Sonic Wrecks, there will be a one day delay between the PS3 and 360 launches, with the PS3 getting first bid. Thos who have purchased the full versions of both episode one and two will also unlock a free bonus episode titled Episode Metal, which claims to bridge the confusion around the tie-in Episode 2 has with Sonic CD.
