Eh, these games seem interesting, but I'm not all that excited. If I get them I'l probably have fun, though.
...and that's what the fool has to say.

I think hell froze over several times. But then again, I'm STILL more excited over Colours. Will be getting this the next time I buy a points card though.

Gamesradar conquers, Sonic 4 is the bomb-diggity.

What's more, they gave it a 9! Hell has most definetly frozen over, considering they were one of the biggest critics of Sonic amongst online gaming sites.

...that, or they're too busy with "OMGWIFEARM"

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

That link makes me realise just how old this whole Anniversary Collection really is. That document was linked on SoaH back around the time Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing was still in development xD

Well, considering that Sonic's 20th anniversary is less then a year away, I suppose talk would resurface again.

Speak of the devil. This article makes me happy.

Two reasons: 1. It says that there's a compilation of the best stages, with 2D and 3D. We can only assume that it can go down a good path - It's based on retro yet with the most recent games, we've seen that Sonic Team actually can pull of 3D madness.

2. Though the article does say it's probably an Olympics game, the idea of a platformer... =D!

All in all, there's still lame spin-offs and whoring (every console, iPhone, etc) going on but I'm happy with the way things are going with Sonic lately.
Good Game

Hex: Yes, you've read the book, you've seen the film - now avoid the game like the plague lest your memory of Harry Potter's epic conclusion be tainted by what can only be described as a short, half-arsed cover-shooter that's boring beyond belief.

Bajo: ...It's shit.

I'm surprised BL didn't post that snippet he posted on SoaH here. For shame, Regent of Rant.

Anyway, Gameplay Trailer NUMBAH 3 (cwhutididthar?)

I am now much more certain that the co-op is Wi-Fi only.

I am now much more certain that the co-op is Wi-Fi only.

I very much doubt it. In fact I'm inclined to believe very much the opposite... Mostly because of this;
'IGN'

Takashi Iizuka on Keeping Co-op Fun
"Some people may be really really good at playing Sonic-type games so they might be able to move around really quickly, but maybe the other person – your friend or your girlfriend or whoever, might not be so good, so we have the ability to dynamically adjust the speed of both Sonics, so that they're not blasting around at full speed if one of the players isn't moving as fast.

"Also, we have co-op specific levels that we've designed, so they're not part of the main game, but are optimised for the co-op gameplay experience."

I don't think Iizuka would talk about friends/girlfriends if it was Wi-fi only. On the other hand, I could be very wrong and I can't seem to find any sources specifying either local or wi-fi... Only mentions of online leaderboards >>. Also, not sure if anyone has mentioned this but there's numerous sources saying that they prefer Sonic Colours over Sonic 4!

Speaking of Sonic 4, I just played the demo (thus only the first level) and... I want it. Nao. I have no idea why I wasn't more excited for this game in the first place. Now, the animations take a little to get used to but considering they function just fine and the surrounding environments and enemies have the same style, you learn to live with it - nay, enjoy it by the end of the first level. The sense of speed is great and, debatably, the homing attack has been implemented perfectly. There's not a whole lot of wiggle room, which is how it should be because it's been implemented in such a way that it feels like it's part of the natural progression from 3 to 4, much like the additions of spin dashing and other characters from the original into 2 and 3.

As with the Genesis era, I found myself having more fun on my third, fourth and subsequent playthroughs because I was starting to learn things about the level and having the homing attack has really added to the delight of knowing what's coming. Also, it seems that a nicely timed homing attack can act as a boost if used low enough to the ground. This can also depends on how fast you're going but it's only small and I feel that it could be rewarding at times (especially in opposition to the recent "Push a button to go fast" mechanic we've seen in recent games). I actually had one of these moments, after managing to start the level running, jumping and hitting a ring box/tv/whatever and, with the right timing, maintaining enough speed to then initiate a homing attack on the turns-out-not-so-distant Mashers. It's not something you're going to always be able to do, especially on your first few playthroughs but having the possibility to do it (a long with a lot of small things) makes me feel like they've gone in the right direction here.

Oh, and remember when you would get enough points on the Genesis games that you would earn a life and a little Sonic tapping his foot would appear next to the score? He's still there :3

Ugh, I can't help but feel that what Iizuka said about the co-op there is gonna make it feel very clunky if the game actually forces you to slow down for someone else. Or something. I just don't like the way that text is positioned.

It's pretty much what I predicted with Chaotix's ring tether system, which isn't bad really, but you'd need to see it in practice to actually get it. That being said, I'd kill for some co-op gameplay footage right about now.

The Sonic tapping his foot is actually a continue if I remember right. Regarldess, I really need to get me a points card and buy the damn thing, but I'm running a bit short on cash and I'm probably going to have to wait a bit before I can do anything. Reviews are pouring in from all across the internet, and the general concensus is that everyone loves this game, even the people who usually don't. While I don't have a source on this, a friend of mine told me that he read an article where Sega claims it has made it it's goal to start producing more quality Sonic titles in the future. As much as I liked the last umpteen games released, they were not without flaws, and it seems a little odd that a company like Sega took so long to realise their market was saturated with unpolished titles. But it's good to admit faults and it's good to see something being done about it, if Sonic 4 and Sonic Colours are any indication of this.

So, Sonic 4 has been on the Australian PS Store for a few hours now, as I believe Hammy downloaded it there. It just launched on the Australian Xbox LIVE Marketplace, which I have stupidly purchased.

In the long run, I probably shouldn't have done that, but eh, too late now.

Plays pretty well, actually, for what I played of the trial, which amounts to Splash Hill Zone Act 1.

So I had a relatively shit day yesterday and came home to the prospect of DLing Sonic 4, only to find that my Xbox Live connection wasn't working.

Turned out because I was using a brand new comp to connect, I had to set up all of my network details all over again. So I tried that, only to find that Windows 7 has the most amazingly unintuitive and ass-backwards approach to network setup ever conceived (seriously now, when it manages to be worse than Vista, that's really saying something).

So I browse online tutorials for hours and try every conceivceable trick in the book, only to find that approximately none of these things worked at all.

So I practically bashed my head against the goddamned keyboard for another few hours and the problem miraculously solved by itself, only to find that even though Live was connecting, I couldn't access any actual Live features beyond my friends list.

So I took a poke around and realized that my firewall was the problem, and disabled it, fixing everything else. Only to find that when it was time to pay for Sonic 4, I only had 20 MSpoints on my account.
