Review embargo is out on Fire and Ice. The general consensus is that it's a marked improvement over Shattered Crystal, but it's still at best average. So far not a single score over 7/10, and averaging out around 6/10. |

I'm not sure why Sega thought the Boom reboot would do anything but bomb after Rise of Lyric tanked as hard as it did. The series has its wit and humor, which can actually be quite good, problem is the gameplay's always going to have that stigma attached to it unless it comes up with something memorable. |

With Mania and Project '17 due out next year, I imagine any future Boom games will be a while off. But given the money they've invested into the spinoff franchise, I don't think they'll just leave it at Fire & Ice and solely focus on the animated series and merchandising. |

Footage of a new stage for Mania has emerged, and with it we finally get to see Tails and Knuckles ingame. That's all I really wanted to see, so I think I'm just gonna go full media blackout on Mania 'til it releases. Prefer to experience the rest of it fresh. |

Fresh from their panel at SXSW, some new info on Sonic Mania and Project 2017: First, Mania has been delayed to Summer 2017 so the team can polish it up a bit more. But we also got a new stage reveal. Dropping it in spoiler tags because I know BL at least wants to be as dark as possible on the game. New stage in Sonic Mania And in regards to Project 2017, the official name has been revealed as Sonic Forces. Still on track for Holiday 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Mentioned as having three different gameplay styles. One was revealed during the panel and the gameplay footage will be posted to the Sonic YouTube channel tomorrow morning at 8AM PT. An instrumental version of the main theme was also previewed. There will be a vocal version in the game at release, but the vocal artist(s) is still being kept a secret. That's a noble gesture, but I found out about it regardless because someone made a thread about it at Sonic stadium and it showed up in the recent topics list. Goddamnit >_> On one hand, they confirmed a brand new Hedgehog Engine out of this - which is interesting because it was dated almost immediately after Unleashed debuted it, and all its GI capabilities were completely wasted on Lost World anyway, so it's nice to hear they're finally giving it a much needed overhaul. On the other hand, three fucking gameplay styles? Can they not just focus on one for a change? Have they learnt absolutely fucking nothing from every game they've made between SA1 and Generations? Here's the gameplay vid. Plays back at 1080p resolution and 60fps. So that's the PC version sorted, at least. Here's hoping the other platforms also get the good stuff. |

You know, I wasn't expecting the best level design from Sonic team, but this is literally just a straight fucking line with boostpads and Homing Attack chains. I am honestly fucking speechless. And they're bringing back 2D sections too. Just for once I'd like to see them commit fully to 3D gameplay so they don't have to run the entire goddamned level along a spline, but I guess I was naieve to believe now would be the time. ![]() Some signs of a sequel for Runners briefely showed up on Gameloft's website, but were taken down once people started noticing. I guess we should expect to hear more about this later, but considering it's Gameloft, I don't have high hopes. |
