Might being the operating word here. Even they don't seem entirely sure what's going on so I wouldn't put too much stock into it personally.

Also the vast majority of anniversary games are actually pretty fucking horrible? So far SA2's been the only exception to the rule, and even that isn't without its fair share of shortcomings.

Yeah "might"'s the same thing I pointed out on FB. But I'm hoping for Sonic Labyrinth 2.

Sonic 'Boom': Starring the Demoman from TF2.

...In all seriousness, I'd love to see Sonic Generations get more levels added to it to cover the games they didn't already. I don't mean things like Lost World either, older stuff they missed or didn't represent that well. (Also some goddamn handheld Sonic game levels would be nice. Electric Egg Zone in 3D plz.)

Fake as fuck.

Also honestly Sega would have to be fucking retarded to go ahead with an SA3 after the way Sonic 4 turned out. Even if it isn't a cynical cash grab like S4 was there's still no way they're ever going to live up to that name.

I don't see why they wouldn't make SA3 just because Sonic 4 sucked, unless they hired the same people. But yeah it did sound too good to be true. And it sounded really weird when the guy mentioned Sticks in SA3...

I still maintain the idea that Sonic '06 is the closest we'll ever get to a Sonic Adventure 3.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

Gameplay wise. Minus the wonky controls, load times, glitches, and acting.

I don't see why they wouldn't make SA3 just because Sonic 4 sucked, unless they hired the same people.
Same reason Duke Nukem Forever shouldn't have been released: because they have literally no chance of living up to the buildup and hype established between themselves, fans and press all. I'm not being absolutely literal about this, but Sonic 4 still stands as the case in point as to why it's a bad idea - that much time and neglect between sequels breeds excessive pedantry if not outright unrest in the community, and the slightest of flaws is often viewed as some unforgivable slight against them, let alone broad, fundemental misunderstandings of what actually made the original games fun. In Sonic 4's case it quickly got to the point that people were crying foul of it based off, I shit you not, a single, partially obscured boost pad in a photo of the wallpaper of the Alton Towers suite, even though at the time there was literally zero indication that there was anything wrong based on what little actual gameplay we'd been shown at the time.

And to be blunt, even besides that, it's a huge step backwards that's become pretty typical of Sega lately. Make a successor in spirit if you have to, sure, but the focus of making games, franchised ones especially, should be selling them based on being consistently stellar and fun to play, not some shallow nostaliga pandering that relies almost exclusively on brand recognition to make a quick buck. I'm tired of seeing checkerboards plastered all over everything as if to say "HEY REMEMBER THOSE OTHER GAMES THAT ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THIS??? WE DO!", because it's a meaningless gesture without understanding what made those games tick - that much doesn't change when it's GUN robots and San Francisco streets instead.

They can create the ideal Sonic game that uses gameplay elements from the adventure games and call it something completely different. I can never understand the obsession people have with seeing a new numbered entry for a franchise when it can do just as well without one. Sonic 06 was Adventure 3 and Unleashed was Adventure 4. The next big Sonic game will be Adventure 5. That's all there is to it.

Hence "successor in spirit". I don't mind them borrowing a few elements from older games that actually worked - hell, I'm actually kind of peeved that Sega treated the concepts of both Adventure games as poison after '06 bombed even though there was nothing innately wrong with many elements of them - but outright basing a game off that legacy so long after it's ceased to be relevant is just suicide.

I feel it's pretty telling that Sonic 4 was originally meant to be named Sonic DL before executive interference kicked in, because it probably wouldn't have received anywhere near the amount of backlash it did otherwise. Sometimes it's actually kind of amusing exactly how much weight a name carries.

It really shouldn't have been hard for them to make a proper Sonic 4. Go for the exact same graphics aesthetic, copy gameplay that already exists, create generic Sonic world, add in a few unspoken story moments told by movements only, throw on digital stores for $15 to $20, and you have a proper sequel that fans can't shit on you for.

They'd find a way to shit on it. This is the Sonic fanbase we're talking about: but only one peg over obnoxious bronies.
