 I always thought it was some sort of SSJ2 type of thing where he just ascends to a new level. Except getting longer quills, also looks like dry ice.

We all knew it was something like that, but Nazo ended up being a LOT cooler than that. It's become fakelore that has a life of its own, and sometimes that's all you need. Sure, it's origin is lame, but I liked what Nazo had become. Granted, the closest we will likely get to it is Mephiles, but I'm not mad about that.

What I DON'T understand is why someone would ever pitch that as Super Sonic, when Super Sonic's look has been a thing since 1992. It's probably why it was abandoned, but just the same, who came up with that as a look for Super Sonic? Hyper Sonic would have been more interesting as an explanation, or even Ultra Sonic if they decided to have a little callback to the Archie Comics.
