You really think Hollywood will learn its lesson? I wish I could have your optimism...

In less sucky news: Sonic and Megaman won't be the only series represented by Sega and Capcom in the upcoming sequel to Worlds Collide

You can't judge some upcoming movie from an entirely different team because of one random movie from 6 years ago, that's all I can really say.

But it's thanks to DBZ Evolution that Hollywood knows what not to do.

Fine make that 2, or more. The point still stands that it's possible to find a way to do it right.
Replace hollywood with "most directors". FTFM. Probably not a good idea to think of all movie studios as one entity. Smurfs wasn't the worst thing in the world, not as much as DB:E was.

There's a reason I mentioned Smurfs in particular - Sony was behind that too, and they're the ones currently bankrolling the Sonic movie. And you can tell they're not going to give a shit about what their director thinks - in spite of the fact that said director is actually on message boards right now and can clearly see that literally nobody likes the direction it's going in - because people are stupid enough to buy it anyway for some reason, stupid enough that it somehow warranted a fucking sequel.

I don't think the "possibility" is really relevant when the patterns and precedent already makes the outcome pretty predictable either way. Nor does it really excuse the fact that a 3D cartoon hedgehog in full CG animation should really have been a complete no-brainer.

Well there's no way to tell or assume what Sony will let him do, that's just speculation. All that is speculation. I'm just hoping this guy delivers on what he's saying.

Sony's animated movies aren't that bad, but nothing along the lines of Pixar or Dreamworks. Sonic isn't even mentioned on the upcoming movies from Sony. But if you look at the ones that are, you might roll your eyes.

Actually looking at Van Robichaux's imdb, there's no way to tell how good of a writer he is. He's a got just a few things there that have decent reviews, but nothing well known.

Isn't it kind of a double standard to tell people to get their hopes up on how things could be only to shut down legitimate observations on long-running patterns because it's "speculation"?

When you're banking a AAA film on it, I'm not so sure that such ambiguity should be seen in so favourable a light. Saying "we don't know guise!" does little more than cast more doubt on their ability to make something good out of all this.

Legitimate observations of what specifically? Depends on what kind of patterns you're even looking at, if you're talking about the quality of Sony movies, their success in ratings are from very bad to really good, it's never consistent. If you're talking about the success patterns of video games made into movies, then maybe. Unless it's treated properly. With this guy it's hard to say.

I'm just saying people shouldn't look at an unknown in such a black and white way until there's more on the table. I'm going to remain somewhat hopeful until either bad news comes or until I see a terrible screenshot/trailer.

As far as I'm aware, most of Sony Pictures Animation's adapted films in recent years have been pretty bad overall, save for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Amazing Spider-Man and Smurfs both fared pretty badly in both critic reviews and people with more than a passing interest in either franchise. Sure, they made enough at the box office to warrant sequels, but that doesn't mean they were good, or as good as they could have been.

I actually loved those first two you listed. And CWACOM had pretty decent reviews from what I remember.

How is that unfortunate? That was a good short, very well made. Very pretty to look at too. Although, I do agree that melding that with live-action could be risky. I would love to see that full CG though.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

Yeah unfortunate if they try to blend live action with that style. Seriously though, they'd have to be pretty careful with any style for Sonic they'd use with live action. You don't want him to look too cartoony, and you don't want him looking like... that one big fan project made him out to be.

It would be better just to stick to a more "cartoony" model as we saw in that short. Introducing realism into a cartoony character would just be awful.

Okay, I like that lineup... save for the fact that freakin' Sticks is right in front. Marine's expy is every bit as annoying and useless as the genuine article. :E
