Boom was in development for four years. It's a textbook example of development hell in the making - simply taking more time with it wouldn't have helped, because most of the issues were at the very core of the design. And for what it's worth, they did patch it post release, but ultimately I think Sega realized earlier than we did that it was a lost cause, and couldn't afford to simply cancel the whole thing without a return on the investment they'd made on it. The whole thing reeks of crap foresight and complete inability to read foreign markets, which frankly has become Sega's calling card lately, a few lucky gambles aside. On the subject of older IPs, Sega needs to dabble more in cheaper, more focused titles to test the waters, but honestly that's a lesson nearly every AAA developer could learn from. Don't experiment just for the fucking sake of it, don't use a respected IP as a springboard for a completely unrelated playstyle and drag its name through the mud in the process (looking at you, Beast Rider), just stick with what they know has worked and expand on it. If it works, good for them, now they know there's a market for it and can afford to build bigger. If not, at least they don't lose 20 million fucking dollars on it. |

Beast Rider could've been an amazing game, but they opted to make it this incredibly boring and repetitive grindfest of walking into a locked area and killing X number of enemies. It had no co-op, which is a fucking sin for a franchise that existed as a beat 'em up (this is exactly the same shit Final Fight: Streetwise suffered from) and focused too much on being brown and grey like everything else being released at the time to give a shit about its roots. Seriously, how the fuck do you screw up Golden Axe? Oh wait, the same way you screw up Bionic Commando. These people have seriously lost touch with how to make games good anymore. |

Sakura Wars died when So Long My Love tanked (guest appearances in crossovers notwithstanding), Magic Knight Rayearth was an animu, Cannon Spike is Capcom and has Megaman so don't fucking count on it...but I'm down with the others. :3 |

They've made a ton of original arcade games and still do, don't they? Port those bitches. Port until you're back on the gravy train. |

Considering how dead the arcade market is and how poorly it translates to consoles? I think the last game they ported was Afterburner Climax, right? That'd probably be the one that'd sell the most anyway. |

Most probably wouldn't port, unless maybe the more unique game controls get the Playstation Move treatment... the thing that most people forgot about. |

There's a lot of emphasis on classic games for some reason, but the picture on Eggman's phone at the very end makes it basically seem like Sonic Dash 2D. I would probably be disappointed if I had any expectations to start with. |

I bet ten rubles it's a perpetual-runner style game ala Rockman X-Over. If nothing else, they're at least disavowing the Sonic Boom games. |

It'd be awesome if it played like Fun Run, with weapons and such. |

Honestly I think the most obnoxious thing about Boom thus far is that even the best things that came out of it - the show, namely - could have been done without a single change in design or thought process whatsoever. Everything else seems like pointless pandering to an audience not interested in the series and never will be, at the expense of people who do give a shit about what the series has become. The sooner they can sweep everything about it under the rug and go back to making a game that's good without dispute and without some pointless, retarded fucking gimmick, the better. |

On another note, Sonic Advance is coming to Japan's WiiU Virtual Console. I'd be surprised if it didn't come internationally too at some point, if ever you didn't get a chance to play it. I think it's overrated personally, but they definently could have picked worse Dimps games to port.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/02/sonic_boom_sales_struggle_to_explode_as_sega_clarifies_restructuring_plans Boom's sales are so bad that even combining the 3DS and Wii U sales numbers brings it up short of Lost World. |
