 Sega America is downsizing, moving to South California. How much of this is relevant to Sonic depends on how much you believe Boom is responsible for it. Reminder, they dropped 20 million bucks on the WiiU version alone, and weren't able to meet sales expectations even after they halved them.

Also probably relevant, they apparently have less than a million dollars left in bank. Really fucking hate the looks of this.

Chronicles, Boom and Colonial Marines have shown that Sega leaves themselves open to being completely screwed even when they're outsourcing. And well, when Sonic is pretty much their only profitable franchise - nevermind how badly they fucked up with Boom - I can't really blame them for putting the focus on it.

In follow-up news, 300 jobs got cut, and they're focusing on digital and non-console games. Which... isn't all that reassuring with the way they've let Hardlight fuck around with the IP.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, their execs are also still complete assholes if this one ex-employee is any indication.

 This is a game Sega is publishing.



May not look like much, but it's a massive anime crossover fighter. I think Sega could have more to gain by continuing a trend of publishing niche, yet highly demanded products like this for the Western market until they can get back up on their feet again. Micromanage, keep it simple like a lot of other niche publishers like Atlus, NIS, XSEED, Aksys and Ignition. They clearly don't have the brains or the balls to compete with the big guns or to try to run the gamut of the AAA industry.

 The fact they couldn't take more time to iron out bugs with so much riding on it is kind of inexcusable with it being the same thing that made 06 a joke. They should start selling more old dreamcast and saturn games through ports on newer systems. Pretty sure Sega fans would pony up cash for nostalgia. Heck, I bet people could play Sonic Arcade with the PS4's touch function in the middle since it's a trackball game.

What other Saturn games are worth sneezing at, and what other Dreamcast games that SEGA has the publishing rights to would you propose?

Also, SEGA is working hard on WiiU and 3ds ports currently. I doubt xbone and ps4 will get as much love since most of those players are dudebro/tryhards, especially on the xbone consumer base.

 Guys, SEGA's entire business strategy the past decade has been to either whore out Sonic, or to re-release their backlog of older games either separately or part of compilations (or all of the above). Seriously, how many times do you want to own the original Sonic trilogy before you've had enough? Sega either needs to cut back on development (because, you know, doing excess is kinda what got them boned in the first place) or to learn to develop new IPs without constantly whoring out their existing ones.

OR NO WAIT, BETTER IDEA! Why not release new games using their older IPs? You know, something like this incredible idea they shot down for no legitimate reason.

Yeah I saw those. Dynamite Cop, Fighters MegaMix, Magic Knight Rayearth, Panzer Dragoon, Gunstar Heroes, the old Phantasy Star, Sakura Wars, Virtua Cop, Virtual On, localizing Yakuza, Rent-A-Hero, MadWorld port, Chu Chu Rocket, Cannon Spike, Vectorman, Skies of Arcadia.
Aaaannnnddd... Shenmue 1 & 2.

And Burning Motherfucking Rangers.
