Posts: 17,366 Group: All Powerful Deity Member #1 Joined: December 30, 2005	I don't mean to sound ignorant here but, why are we all suddenly getting excited over a fan port of Sonic 2 on cellphones? On that note, how did Sega allow fans to port one of their games and why is this relevant again? Did I miss something? Is this that Sonic 2 HD Remake from a few years back with hand drawn sprites and stuff, because it just looks like generic Sonic 2 to me.

I've run into a few bugs, notably the app crashing half the time when I get an air bubble or when a block that was moving away from me still registered as crushing me against a wall. It'll probably get another update soon. EDIT: @Psycho - this guy's been doing ports for a while now. He was behind Sonic CD and Sonic 1 2.0 before this. It's not the first time Sega has brought someone else on board, I believe a well-known emulator programmer was involved in the DS port collection? This isn't Sonic 2 HD, but it is a completely rebuilt game. Instead of an emulator, it's based on a fairly solid engine that they simply put Sonic 2 music and stages into. The engine isn't 1:1, but it's close enough that the game plays perfectly fine. (Only notable issues I had were some weird jumps in Starlight, but I don't know if those were a problem to begin with) It runs much better than emulating the games does. The best addition to it is the ability to save progress; they also brought in Knuckles as a playable character by default. Sonic 2 is especially notable because they added Hidden Palace Zone in. I think they also removed the Hill Top Zone boss? Unless there was never one to begin with. Personally, I'm most excited about the ports because they've so far seemed much more responsive than the original games ever were. Once the bugs are ironed out, this will be the definitive version of Sonic 2. It's why everyone's so antsy to have it on PC and console now. Edited by YCobb, Dec 12 2013, 11:11 PM.

It can run Sonic Dash just fine, the processing power should be able to run 50 Sonic 2's at the same time.
