http://kotaku.com/5118109/let-us-mourn-the...kotaku-xbox-360 How surprising. Those of you who think that Microsoft has rectified the issue are holding onto false hope. Read the comments for some more input from people who've lost their 360's to the RROD; all due to Microsoft's incompetence. I know that my PS3 isn't as graphically superior, even though the difference is minimal, but I can find comfort in knowing it won't suddenly drop dead on me while playing. I'm no Sony nutswinger as I would prefer the 360 had the units not been destined to ruin. I'd like to keep people aware of the issue so that people whom plan on purchasing a 360 can take the plunge while having considered the RROD problem. |

Well, you're right, Microsoft has shown incompetence considering the red ring fact and my console can drop dead while I'm playing. However I'd prefer to stay away from a console that was manufactured by Sony, since it stopped caring about quality and started caring about quantity. So, if my 360 does drop dead, I'm just gonna play with the Wii or the DS.Still no need for the PS3, XD! |

Replacing RRoD'd 360s isn't reliable, considering Microsoft tends to do that with first generation consoles. In other words, if your 360 ends up dying, they'll just send you another one that's just as likely to die the next day. Kotaku's, or anyone else's best bet is to just go out and buy a new console, preferably an Elite or Premium. |

The only question is, do you think the red ring problem is 100% fixed in the Premium or Elite? Or do I have to prepare another funeral? |

Is there sufficient proof to ascertain that Microsoft has dealt with the issue accordingly with their latest batch of 360s? Microsoft hasn't issued a statement declaring that there would be no more RRODs with the new 360s. |

As far as I know, the faulty chips have been replaced, as well as the fact that according to the October 2007 issue of The Official Xbox Magazine, there are reports that new Xbox 360 Elites and newer Premiums, as well as officially refurbished units, have larger heatsinks. However, it has yet to be determined how far this fix has gone in alleviating the issues, but considering I've yet to see a complaint about any RRoD's from any of the newer generation of 360's, it'd be wise to deduce it's working so far. |

The RRoD is still an issue? Man, I thought the storm had passed. I suppose I should count my lucky stars as my 360 has yet to have any hardware problems in the two-ish years I've owned it.
I'm not so sure about the Premium package (seeing as it's really just a plain old 360), but I own an Elite, as do a lot of my friends, and we haven't encountered the RRoD at all, whereas a lot of the people around here with traditional 360s have encountered it at least once. |

All Premium and Elite 360s released after Halo 3 have the 60nm chip, which supposedly is one of the factors preventing the RRoD. The only difference between the Elite and Premium are the bigger HDD and some accessories really. |

So far, i have had fairly good experiences with Microsoft products. I have had 5 windows computer, none of which have ever blue screened, one original xbox, which worked like new the whole time i had it. And i now have a 360. My friend's 360 red ringed, so he bought a new one and gave me his old one to fix. I hooked it up, turned it on, and it worked like new, with no work done on it. i have had it for a few weeks now, and i haven't had a problem yet So, i have some faith in Microsoft, mainly because Microsoft hasn't let me down. |

My first 360 red-ringed, so, I went to get it fixed. After two days it got red-ringed again. And it would be such a waste of money to fix it so that it would re-ring again, so I had to but one of the new "fixed" 360's. So, I'm not trying to, you know jinx your console, but I thought I'd give you a warning in advance. |

I know 360 have a tendency to red ring. the funny part is that this xbox has red ringed multiple time for my friend, and hasn't red ringed once for me. It could be the atmosphere, who knows. What i know is that it hasn't red ringed yet, and i'm happy for that. |

Another factor some people don't take notice of is standing the console vertically. Doing so blocks off some of the vents, which contributes to the RRoD, as well as scratching your discs. If you can help it, DON'T stand it up vertically. |

Yeah, i heard about that. I always have my console on it's side anyways though. Would you think it would be the same with the nintendo wii? I always stand my wii up, would that scratch the discs as well? |

The Wii is designed to stand up, so I highly doubt it will. |
