So I have this insanely well-developed science fiction setting that I'd really love to RP in. Unfortunately, I have been unable to start said RP. The setting is somewhat integrated into the science fiction setting on Reality's Exile, but due to that integration, several key elements are missing. All will become clear as I explain it, though. We'll start with a basic setting outline. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c366/Sco...arlingMapV3.png Here we have ye olde mappe of Known Space. It is color-coded depending on the nation owning the area. Each circle is a system. There is nothing in-between the systems except empty space and stars without planets, with almost no exception. The lines represent connections made by jump gates. Let me explain the different nations in no particular order. The dark blue ones are Garlings. Their physical description can be found here. Garlings are the first of the three most politically powerful species in Known Space. They really love plasma and plasma-related weaponry and stuff powered by plasma, although they do also enjoy using ion beam cannons. They have a fairly strong military influence, although they are reluctant to enter wars unless they are directly threatened. The blue ones are Norcaroians. Their description can be found here. Norcaroians are the second of the three most politically powerful species in Known Space. They use weaponry which looks a lot like lasers, but is actually a type of particle cannon. These are dubbed "lascannons" (yes, I know, Warhammer 40K). They generally go to war when provoked. They are also my brother's species, so I can't answer questions about these people so much. The sort of light green ones are Kimeans. Their description can be found here. Kimeans are the third of the three most politically powerful species in Known Space. They use neutron cannons, but since they're pretty much pacifists, it's unlikely that you'll ever see one fired. They never fight unless they are directly threatened very consistently, and even then, they mostly hire escorts. They have the largest amount of corporations in Known Space, and they pretty much have a monopoly over all the major trade that goes on. The above three species make up the alliance known as GNK, which is the second-biggest government in Known Space. The white ones are the Sar Kerith. Their description can be found here. The Sar Kerith are the biggest species (a whopping 25 billion), and they possess the most systems. However, their government is pretty disjointed and loose. Each system has its own government, and while the whole species acts as one nation, this is only represented by each system having to send one representative to the Sar Kerith Ruling Council. Otherwise, the different systems pretty much mind their own business unless a cooperative effort from the nation is required. The Sar Kerith probably have the most primitive technology in Known Space. They use weapons like rail guns, coil guns and chain guns. Their shields are also the most primitive, along with their hyperdrives, but they make up for this with heavy armor on their ships. The Sar Kerith are devoted to neutrality, so they welcome everybody into their borders, no matter what species they are. They do, however, have a blacklist, so anybody who stirs up trouble will probably find themselves being forcibly removed from Sar Kerith space. The red ones are the Zorga. Their description can be found here. The Zorga are a very strange species. They are pretty paranoid, so until they figure that somebody's not out to get them, they are hostile to them, unless something about them perks their interest. They really love their bio-technological experiments, so much that no one member of the species can really say for sure whether or not their DNA is identical to the original DNA of the Zorga. Their technology is mostly quite odd, to say the least. Their basic weapons of choice are energy-infused autocannons and gauss weapons, but they also have such strange weapons as flechette cannons, suicide craft, and giant, hollow drills that expose an unshielded ship to the vacuum of space. The Zorga are very hostile, and do not hesitate to start wars if they feel it is necessary (and believe me, they feel a lot). The dark grey ones are Xorian Raiders. Their description can be found here. The Xorians are one of the newest species in Known Space. They are indeed a hive mind, but it is quite loose, so they are free to do whatever they like, unless they are given a direct order by the hive mind, in which case they are pretty much screwed. Xorians use particle cannons and fusion pulse cannons quite exclusively. Xorians raid Kimean convoys on a day-to-day basis, and any other traders they come across. Needless to say, the Has border worlds are a very dangerous place to be. The orange ones are Hogrogs. Their description can be found here. Once again, this species was made by my brother, so I don't know too much about them. They have a lot of scavenged technology from both the Norcaroians and Zorga, though. Think of them as like the Xorian Raiders of eastern Known Space. The blank ones are Pirate Gathering Posts. The link to them can be found here. The Hogrogs, Zorga and Xorian Raiders chill there. The dark green ones, the dark red ones and the grey one are the Dekari, Karnoroians and Tzaru-Sokinu. They're not really fully integrated into Known Space yet, so we won't worry about them. The sort of yellowish ones are the Zalamath. Their description can be found here. These ones were made by my good friend Pieboy, but I can still answer some general questions about them. On the ground they use a liquid known as gaisa-samvar for weaponry, which is highly corrosive and increases in surface tension under pressure, so it's normally put in a state where it can pierce skin. However, for their space ships, they use stuff like rail guns, machine guns and lasers. I'm not sure exactly how their foreign policy works, but they're fairly xenophobic. The light blue ones are Terrans. I'm pretty sure I don't have to explain how they look. Now, these aren't just Terrans. They are the Terran Empire, which is in no way affiliated with Star Wars. They are cruel, xenophobic, oppressive people, and people all-round just don't like them. They like big things, like big ships and big weapons. My brother is loosely in charge of them. However, we have some people just southwest of the Zalamath, who should be on a separate map, called Rezslekovia. They are humans rebelling against the Empire. They have a total of five systems. Rezslekovia is their only planet though. They like such goodies as machine guns and pulse lasers. They're a really extreme socialist rebellion who really love civil rights. They would probably be allied with the rest of Known Space if they had more contact with them. There is one other species, who are the turquoise systems at the top. They are called the Scallorothi. Their description can be found here. The Scallorothi are really powerful, so I'm not going to let anybody be one. They have pretty much invulnerable shielding and armor. Their weapons consist of powerful beam weapons, really hardcore EMPs, viruses and nanobots. That pretty much sums up all the species. I'll talk about their capitals later. Species relations are pretty much summed here. If you see an unfamiliar species, don't panic. There is one big event that everybody in Known Space should know about, unless they're somewhere like Earth or Rezslekovia. This is the ZugZug War. Basically, the Garlings did a little experiment with biology and technology in the same room, so they came up with a project codenamed as ZugZug by the brilliant minds back at Garling HQ. They started this in SY (standard year) -15. About two years into the growing/constructing, however, the Zorga (who were the Garlings' rough allies back then) got it into their heads that ZugZug was a weapon (which it kind of was) that would be used against them. So they amassed a fleet and jumped it into the Zilnor system in an attempt to destroy the space station with ZugZug on it. However, the Garling Military intervened with assistance from the Norcaroians, so all was well. In SY 0, ZugZug was completed, and ended up as a large space ship with biological components and a living, working brain. They proceeded to begin experiments on ZugZug. Now, they figured that if they made ZugZug too smart, then ZugZug would try to destroy its imperfect masters. So they aimed to make it about as smart as a smart dog. Unfortunately, it was not quite this smart in the end. It, upon being kept in the cramped space station for long periods of time, became timid and it panicked. So it resorted to its animal instincts and broke out rather forcibly, killing a good few Garlings. This was very distressing to the Garlings, but they sent out a message to everybody they knew telling them if a giant unknown space ship came out of hyperspace and started attacking them, it was probably ZugZug, which had escaped and they were trying to recapture. Unfortunately, the first place ZugZug went was Norcaro, where it sowed mayhem before jumping away. The Norcaroians, who take personal assaults very seriously, thought that the Garlings had set it on them. Therefore, they declared war on the Garlings. Over the span of the next year, the Garlings set hard at work convincing everybody in Known Space that they had not set ZugZug on everybody. Once that was accomplished, a giant hunt happened, where every species (save the Xorians, Zorga, Hogrogs, Scallorothi and both human factions) set to work trying to find ZugZug so that the Garlings could recapture it. However, every time they found it, it managed to escape, causing not a small amount of casualties to anybody trying to capture it. The Garlings determined that their experiment was a failure, and sadly resolved to destroy it before it did any more harm. So the species of Known Space collaborated and developed a way to interrupt the hyperspace sequence so that people would be unable to jump while a field was active. The Garlings took their most powerful ship to destroy ZugZug, along with a significantly large fleet. They destroyed it, and repaired their reputation with the rest of Known Space, making most people happy. It was SY 3. Some other notes: The Xorians have only been active since SY 3. This is not due to the ZugZug War at all. Nobody has ever seen a Scalloroth. Ever. Anybody who has seen a Scalloroth is dismissed as making stuff up to make people impressed. They're kind of like UFOs in that aspect. The current year, for the purposes of this RP, is SY 5. So. Any takers? |

That is.....a LOT of information to swallow there Scout. Well, whenever you're interested in making an RP pretaining to this universe you've created, by all means go for broke. It's quite interesting, but it's gonna take quite a bit of research to go with it. XD |
