The Winds of Change

I think this would actually be fun as a chain of RPs. I mean, yeah, we'd have the universe's unluckiest survivors, but at least whoever we throw in can get some more air time, yes? And as for motives of attack, maybe they just don't need to attack. Maybe they need to adjust to this new society. Not everything has to have fights in it. If anything, this is more going along the lines of the "everyday" RP, everyone going on with their private lives, developing friendly relationships, rivalries, and deadly acquaintances. I don't want to call it a "soap opera", but a drama would be much more interesting than just killing everything. Maybe one of the governors plans for an "accident" to occur to another so he can take his position, maybe two families have an issue with each other and one family member decides they've had it and goes after a rival member, causing issues within the colony that starts compounding the problem. I'd rather not, "WE'RE ANGRY, KILLKILLKILL," or, "OMG TERRORISTS SAVE THE CHILDREN." It's not that they're not possible, it's that it is just so overdone that it hardly interests me anymore to see it. |

Hm, it all comes down to style, really. On NS.net, most of the RPs involve intense battles, sex, drugs, and the like. Essentially, every RP on that forum is adult-oriented. Anyway, I suppose we could go without a massive battle, but I'm not one for excessive drama. We should have a decent amount of violence, as I believe that it would be a little more interesting. At least, it would for me. |

Interesting idea Pax, that could actually work well. And although I agree with Polter to some extent, I think we need to find a happy medium to keep people stimulated/interested in the RP. |

I'm digging the disease idea, Pax. I think we should try to flesh it out first, though. Otherwise, we're pretty much lost. Also, I never said that there weren't any happy moments. The way I imagined it, there were happy moments as well as sad moments. In other words, detail. |

OK! It could start with a small amount of symptoms displayed by people who come in contact with the crash surviviors, and the disease eventually turns into an eppidemic, and the symptoms start getting worse and worse.....

Nah, it needs to be a little more...unique. It seems to be just another one of those viruses that kill you plain and simple. I suppose we could go with a viral mutagen, but that's not terribly original, either. |

That's kind of what I was talking about. In order to go with the viral outbreak, something needs to happen that doesn't involve the undead. I'm thinking of the infected mutating into new forms while keeping their humanity (they're the same people on the inside, they just look different), but also gaining the ability to do something. Maybe the lone survivors are infected with this virus, and are mistaken for aliens at first. |

That would make things complicated, although a xenomorph invasion wouldn't be such a bad idea later on...or something. But then it'd start to look like this was the unluckiest bunch of colonists in the universe. Anyways Ry, when's this starting up? |

Actually, I was planning to start it by the end of the week. Oddly enough, I intended for this thread to last maybe two weeks at most, but we couldn't decide on where to go. In fact, I was actually considering the idea of scrapping the entire set of ideas we have so far (colonists, pandemic, etc.) and winging it. tl;dr: I'm starting the RP in a week. Get your profiles up. |

Damn. *goes off to make teh profilaxis* EDIT: Just thought I should let you know you didn't really specify much about the planet's colonization. How many countries, cities, towns and settlements have been developed? How far are they appart from each other. What are the politics between them? Do the different religions have any enmity towards each other? What kind of rulership is there? Also, more info on technology plz. I'm making a temp profile until more can be clarified about this. EDIT 2: Profile completed. I left blanks where I wasn't sure what to fill in. I'll also add more about the city she's from once I get some more insight through Ry. I think I MAY have misinterpreted the whole "deity worship" scenario, because I sorta envisioned it as a spirit that the family regularly interracts with physically. If it's borked, let me know so I can change it. |

Why don't you make a disease like smallpox resurface. But, this virus is new viral strain, which cannot be cured. It can be an epidemic, or even pandemic (if there are countries on this piece of rock) |

Actually, I've been thinking a lot about that. So far, I have a few ideas that may or may not be of use to you. * At this point, I was thinking of having only, say, 40% of Seradin’s surface inhabited, and maybe 60% of its surface explored. The remaining 40% is unexplored terrain, but if the explored areas have any significance, then the remaining unexplored sections should be habitable. (Remember that Seradin is quite a bit larger than Earth!) * Cities and towns are spaced roughly an hours drive apart if you were traveling at 60 miles per hour. (I’m not sure how fast that is in kilometers per hour, though. Someone else will have to do the calculations.) Also, there are only three major cities, each one on a one of the three continents. For the most part, people live in smaller cities; tight-nit settlements that rarely exceed 10,000 inhabitants. * Depends on the continent, really. Tarisma (my character’s continent) is led by a Democratic Republic government system a lot like the one America uses. The other two are open game, and I’ll leave their government systems (and their names) up to the RP itself. * No, the two religions show no enmity. As I said before (or, at least I think I did), religion on Seradin is very private, and doesn’t interfere with everyday life or personal relations. Someone who is involved with Ancestral worship usually has no problem interacting with someone involved with Deistic worship, at least not on a religious level. Any sort of tension between the two would be the result of clashing opinions or personalities. * Technologically, the Seradinians are somewhere in between the Galactic Federation and the Covenant. For example, faster-than-light slipspace travel is something well within their reach, as well as artificial gravity. By the same token, they do have advanced energy weapons, but they’re expensive to produce, so projectile based weapons are more common. Also, their ships are still primarily protected by thick hulls since they have not yet mastered shielding technology that advanced. (If you'd like, I'll gladly go more in-depth).
Actually, you hit it spot on. Although I originally intended for the Deities and the Ancestral spirits to remain uninvolved and static, I later figured that it would be interesting to have them interact with the people who worship them. Also, in case you were wondering, people involved in Ancestral worship still interact with the beings they worship, it just so happens that these are the ghosts of their ancestors. |
