Okay, it's painfully obvious that the RP scene around here is, well, non-existent. Hopefully, this can remedy it. You see, I've been working on a story for a while revolving around the concept of what humanity is going to do when the sun finally croaks. So far, this is my idea. Preface In the year 2156, humanity finally mastered interstellar travel. Using revolutionary technology that allows humans to travel at speeds just under the speed of light, interstellar colonization was now a very real possibility. By the time 2213 came, faster-than-light slip-space travel was the mainstream, and mankind had successfully colonized several worlds. Still, up to 98% of humanity remained in the solar system, with 75% still on Earth. All seemed well, and everyone expected humanity's influence to do nothing but grow. Sadly, so many people were focused on that goal that no one seemed to notice the well-being of the sun. After all, scientists expected it to last for another 5 billion years. Surely nothing would happen in the near future...right? That mentality was shattered when scientists made a horrific discovery: the sun was dying, and it would not be long before it collapsed on itself, destroying the inner solar system. People went into a panic. Interplanetary transit systems were clogged with people trying to escape. Although some did, most did not, and it wasn't long before all hope was abandoned. With the transit systems down, some tried to escape in their own private craft. Others prayed constantly that God would save them. Neither method proved successful. Finally, the day of reckoning came: the sun consumed the last of its available fuel, and within the hour, it died, swallowing the four inner planets and sending 94% of all humans to their fiery deaths. The remaining humans (the ones who successfully escaped, and those who lived elsewhere) met up with each other elsewhere in the galaxy. Their numbers were just above 61 million. They came together and set out to find a new planet to call home. Little did they know that it would be over 100 years before they found one. In a distant spiral arm, the remaining humans (45 million of them. The other 16 million died.) discovered a large star, Revolving around this star was a new planet. After scanning and studying it from afar, the scientists knew they had found their new home. It had a circumference of 18,451 miles, slightly larger than Earth. Its atmosphere was 79% Nitrogen, 20% Oxygen, and 9% miscellaneous gases. Its temperature was considerably colder than Earth, with the highest being 24 degrees, and the lowest being -215 degrees. An obvious drawback, but a minor one, especially since this was a one time chance. This new planet, named Seradin, was their new home. They colonized it, and it became official: no longer were they the Humans of Earth. They were now the Humans of Seradin. Seradin Seradin is a cold planet that occupies the very edge of a large star's "life zone." Even before humans discovered it, millions upon millions of alien animals called it home, and apparently, other advanced civilizations had visited there before, leaving behind remnants of their technology and culture. The humans incorporated this technology into their daily lives, allowing them to perform what they never thought to be possible: True artificial gravity, for instance. As a whole, Seradin is either an Arctic or Alpine Tundra. With the exception of a few small regions, the entire planet is covered in snow that ranges from 2 inches to 12 feet deep. Cities and Towns are built on special foundations that are constantly maintained in order to maintain a constant depth of 3 inches, at least on roads. Vehicles run on a special gel-like fluid that is incredibly cheap to produce. Other cars are powered by powerful Plasma Batteries. At the poles, the temperature is so low that the oceans are completely frozen, and thus, two extra landmasses composed entirely of ice are present. Religion in Seradin is different than it is on Earth. Instead of large mainstream religions, people worship privately in one of two ways: Ancestral Worship: The worship of one's ancestors. People who worship in this manner typically believe that when a family member dies, they ascend to a higher plane and are granted divine powers. Deistic Worship: This form is much simpler than the former. Instead of worshiping one's ancestors, those who worship in this manner worship their family's divine entity. Since it differs from family to family, one entity always looks different than another. Cuisine on Seradin is mostly the same as it is today. Pizza and Spaghetti are two popular dishes. There's what I have so far. If you would like to contribute, then please, do so. And remember, this is a planning thread, not the actual RP. If you would like an example of how a profile in this RP should be set up, see my character profiles thread, second post. -Rypherion |

This RP looks very promising and intuitive. It's a bit like what I had going with Dark Dominion: Scorched Earth and some Starcraft thrown in there. I'm definately in, but I'd need to thow up a character profile for someone who'd fit into this timeline/scenario. |

Yeah, I didn't know about the similarities until you pointed them out. It was sheer coincidence. |

Sporaicho is an alien, correct? If so, I'd prefer it if you didn't use him. Even if it is on another planet, the original plan was for it to be exclusively human. This is just my preference, though. |

That's actually a very interesting approach to it. It'd be interesting to see all this from only a human perspective. |

Ah, someone who agrees. =D Anyway, now that that's out of the way, I think we need to focus more on the storyline. Obviously, the one I posted doesn't give much of a true story per say. Originally, I intended for there to be an alien invasion, but after realizing just how cliché that was, I scrapped the idea. Do you guys have any ideas? |

An alien invasion isn't cliché, it just depends on how you pull it off. |

Actually it's become so cliched it's practically the norm in sci-fi. Ry's approach keeps the situation exclusively human, meaning relations between different humans won't be that much different than what goes on in real life. This in turn leads to something the RPers can relate to, but given the added twist of the situation, it'll make for a more interesting experience. Oh Ry, I implore you to avoid the words "bounty hunter" like they were the plague. >.> In any case, as for ideas, we could start the RP off with everyone's characters going about their daily lives. Nothing too fancy, just whatever situation we placed them in when creating their profiles. From there, you can set up the scenario however you want it. You could have a bizzarre daily occurance like a power failure or food shortage, or go balls up terrorist/extremist attacks on a city. It's your call on where you want to take this RP, and whether you want it to be heavy on the action or not. |

Alien invasions are the worst you can possibly go for, standing above evil scientists and genetic mutations. Go for something simple, yet massively effects everyone on a large-scale basis. Have a meteor strike to shift the planet off its normal axis and orbit, massively effecting the climate. I personally like Psycho's power outage. Such a thing can cause a multitude of problems, including environmental stabilization, criminal influx, widespread mechanical failure causing injuries and deaths, et cetera. Ooh, we could always have something akin to an alien invasion...such as another group of humans just happening to crash their ship upon the planet, unbeknownst to them that there are survivors of Earth residing there? |

I'm digging both Psy and Zephyr's ideas, though, if we head in that direction, we'll need to find some way to connect them, e.g. sabatage. And to further develop Zephr's idea of the human survivors, we should probably give them a motive for attacking. For example, they feel abandoned because they were left to fend for themselves, and now they want revenge. |

Well it depends on how far you want to take the RP. Do you want one long string of interconnected events, or just one big event that could be solved through one RP? I'd take the former for a standalone RP, and the latter if you intend to use this "universe" for future RPs. |

Personally, I don't see this spanning beyond one RP, so the former would be more appropriate. |
