Oh by the way, I watched this movie the other day, when I was on vacation. I'm going to have to be honest in saying it's been one of the most overrated experiences ever. I mean seriously, what's so special about this movie? They did the exact same thing with The Blair Witch Project almost a decade ago, and I don't see anything different here aside from an abundance of special effects. Shoulda watched AVP instead. >.> |

Lol. I can assure you, AVP is nothing compared to Cloverfield. The movie lived up to the hype in my opinion. You just had to spend sleepless nights studying it. Jesus Christ, I did some studying. |

Oh, I ended up downloading and watching AVP a week ago. Suffice to say, I wasted my money on Cloverfield. AVP was a fantastic movie, a great blend of horror and action, much like Aliens. The ending was just seriously badass. The more and more I think about Cloverfield, the more I feel like kicking myself in the nuts over what a crappy movie it was, and how I wasted my time on it. I had the option of watching three or four other movies over it. The least they could've done is explained more about the fucking monster. |

It's one of those stories that's set up so you actually have to work to understand it. It's not made for the stupid. Which is basically everyone who goes to see a movie these days. If you want more info, do the research. I mean, there's even a manga out explaining the origin of the monster! There ARE answers, they're just not in the movie. It's like reading a good book. If you just read the last chapter, it's going to seem like a waste of time/money/etc. But if you read the whole thing, then things make sense and it's worth it. |

It's not stupid when you pay to see a form of entertainment and expect to get that. It's stupid when you force people to buy a crapload of merchandise just to get the full story. I watched the movie because I wanted to know more, when you're basically saying that in order to understand everything, I have to NOT watch the movie. The creator's logic is infallible. |

That's not it at all. If you take the movie at face value, it won't seem as good. And besides, there's no merchandise involved in the back story. The manga is optional. Most of the story is found online. See the previous links posted. That's what they were posted for, after all. |

(I haven't been following this thread, so I'm probably saying some things already mentioned.) The reason nothing was really explained in the movie is because all of that happened in one night, and I guarantee that if some big-ass creature that noone knew about popped up and started smashing shit, there's no way that anyone's gonna know all about it in one night. Granted, I went in not expecting to like it, and that made me a little biased against it, but after doing a little more thinking on it, I thought it was okay. Also, the beginning said "Property of Department of Defense" and that kinda stuff, so if the rest is going to be explained, there will likely be another movie, this time detailing the research or whatever. Also, I bet the special features on the DVD will have some more info. SPOILERS What I didn't really like was that a bite from the parasites caused people to explode, probably from venom or enzymes that create a build up of gases in the abdominal cavity (faster than what the body can deal with), or react with some chemicals in the human body that causes the same kind of build up. To me, that's gore for the sake of gore, and it's kinda over doing it. Yeah, it doesn't actually SHOW the inflation and popping, but we do see the result of it for a couple seconds (dead soldier being wheeled out on a gurney). The venom probably causes the stomach to create too much acid, which causes it to digest itself. Obviously, this would cause bleeding in the stomach, and blood induces vomiting (which happened in the movie right before the girl exploded). During a chemical reaction involving acid takes place, there's usually various gases being released, and if those gases build up in an enclosed place, it increases pressure. I'm sure you can draw conclusions from there. Also, at the end of the credits, there's an audio clip played in reverse. You can find it somewhere online being played both normally and in reverse, and when reversed, you can clearly hear someone saying "it's still alive." NO MORE SPOILERS |

Yes, I know, I'm resurrecting this thread. Deal with it. I just saw the movie last Saturday, and I can really say is that it was one of the coolest movies I've seen in a while. There were some things I didn't like, of course, but other than that it was a very good movie. I really liked the monster, and I thought it was really well done. The design was a little unexpected (shortly before the movie was released, several "concept" drawings of the monster were "leaked" onto the internet and depicted it as being a whale with legs), but after a while I came to prefer it over everything else. I also like how the monster's origins are never explained in the film - this is because (take note of this Psy) of the point of view of the characters. Obviously, a bunch of kids with a handicam aren't going to know where or what this thing is. Also, the fact that it's "just a baby" really make it interesting. |
