Nu metal's been around for the past few years, taking the music industry by storm. It's become the sound that people listen to, and truth be told, it's not a good thing. Everyone knows how much I hate conformists, but the worst kind of conformist is the one who insults you by OVERenjoying something you like.

I'll just come out and say it. Nu metal sucks. Much like how boybands and gangsta rap plagued the music industry in the mid 90's and late 90's respectively, nu metal is having the same effect today. The usual conformists and mindless dolts who worship anything that's "in" these days think they're all hardcore because they listen to nu metal. I really wish this ridiculous fad blows over soon, because every Tom, Dick and Larry I run into thinks theyre all "metal".

Metal and rock was all about what went down in the 80's and early 90's. Bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer....stuff like that made the genre worth listening to. THAT was metal, not the crap that's so hot these days. So what made nu metal so big? They took rock and punk, mixed it up, and came up with the spawn that we know today as nu metal.

The problem is nu metal's become so big, it's had a negative effect on the rest of the genre. Anyone notice how rock, punk and alternative have all gone downhill? Metallica's St. Anger was an abysmal comeback. The Offspring's Splinter was just terrible. Staind's 14 Shades of Grey was a very big let down. Hell, even Creed went down with the ship after "My Sacrifice" became a hit.

All in all it just blows. Even DECENT nu metal bands like Linkin Park have gone down the toilet. Their first album was great, second was good, third was mediocre. After several rehashes and singles, they went and did the unfathomable and released that mistake that was the Jay-Z album. Now, the name Linkin Park is on par with the F word in my books.
