Uh-ohes.. j/k The breakin was where I had the most trouble with my nitro blizzard. In fact, I couldn't get the darn thing to run more than 30 seconds. Me thinks the engine was faulty. Having said that... Don't let that discourage you. I'm.. probably one of the worst people at tunning nitro engines. If I was in your situation, I would search google for a nitro engine break in guide. Not sure if that would help or not, as I don't even trust my own advice when it comes to these small engines. Would probably be best to wait until one of the other members respond.

Hello All, I'll try to post again, here. I typed tried to post two times before, but lost the messages somehow when I tried to preview them. So here goes! I got the nitro Blizzard DF300 on Christmas and tore right into it, carefully seperating the parts and reviewing the whole thing before starting. I had it pretty much ready to go in a week and picked up the radio gear, paint, fuel and bottle, and glo-plug battery stick. Took a few more evenings painting and assembling it, what nice stuff Kyosho makes! I've also got a sailboat from Kyosho and it was a pleasure to build also. Break-in time: It fired up and ran as it was set from the factory and I ran through about 8 tankfulls at only about half throttle,(never got into 2nd gear). Then I started leaning it out and by tank number 10 I was opening it up to full speed. All went well with a few minor adjustments here and there. Big Trouble: After about three or fuor more tanks of fuel and a couple tumbles and flips I crashed it into a solar yard light and it went end over end and died. When I went to start it, the pull starter would not engage the engine, so I assumed the starter was broken. Not the case at all. After pulling it down I dicovered the 3mm CRANKPIN had broken off cleanly right in the middle! Repairs: Luckily, I build precision tool and molds for a living and was able to grind and polish a new pin for it, the other parts were OK and the pin pressed out of the crank nicely. I have no idea how that stout little pin broke when the connecting rod is a really small aluminum piece. Got it back together and it runs like a top, although I richened up the mixture 1/3 turn or so to be on the safe side. It's been running pretty well but yesterday I dropped it while carrying it by the tow hook and cracked the plastic bracket tha holds the drive sprockets to the chassis. I replaced it for now with an aluminum sleeve with a counterbore which I made up real quick. Good thing, because today we got a nice 2 inches of dense snow to play on! (I'm about 50 miles from Chicago) I recieved a set of bearing for it and will probably do a complete teardown and rebuild before too long. Does anyone know what the other bearings are for? 16 are for the wheels and I havent looked ito where the others may be used. To sum it up: This is a great vehicle, great to build, way fun to run it, and you certainly benefit by being handy with light gage mechanical fare. Wade Gyure |

I found this a little while ago, maybe it will help with your bearing question. Actually.. come to think of it.. I wrote this.
Sure sounds like you broke a lot of stuff. If you break anything else.. or if you want spare parts.. I've got a Nitro Blizzard I never got to run. I am in the process of converting it over to a dual motor electric. So if you or anyone else wants a Nitro Blizzard drivetrain I've got one.. engine (may or may not work.. I couldn't get it to work), transmission, and a few other nitro blizzard parts. I think I need the chassis plate though.. Pay 10 bux for shipping and its yours.
(I don't really care if you buy it.. I've just been meaning to get rid of the parts, they've just been collecting dust on my shelf so I thought I'd offer.) |
