Well with have my project Blizzard turn into a 3 speed plowing beast. It has lost its rompability in the snow drifts. So I can solve that! Out comes spare parts Blizzard #2! I quickly (and I mean quickly) threw it together. I did the brake pad mod, and also diff locked the diff. Ballooned the radio and threw in a Runner ESC. I reused the old brake linkages as I have to make new ones anyways for the other Blizzard. And a couple hours later... Don't mind the body, I didn't have time to cut and paint another one. I wanted to be in the snow!!! And one very crappy battery pack later... More pictures at: Gallery |

I have been thinking that the 19turn I threw in there was bogging down due to the drag and the snow. It being a brand new motor didn't help either. It was having a hard time trying to turn in the soft stuff, but would go straight ok... My crappy batteries don't help either but its all I have right now. I am going to install the stock motor in tonight and try it again and see how it fairs. I am hoping it will be just as fast but have more power to turn since it shouldn't bog down. If my test is right I am thinking maybe 2 stock motors isn't such a bad idea after all. With all the drag on the track system, then trying to blast thru inches of snow. You need all the torque you can get, not speed so much.... |

I threw the stock motor back in and my guess was right on the money. It "seems" to be going thru the snow much easier then the 19turn. And if roosters are anything to show, its throwing the snow better then last time. Kyosho has the motor / ratio nailed I think... Plus steering was a breeze like I am used to. Enough yak, lets see some pics! Gallery |

I rearranged the wheels into a 3 per side, just to see how it did. It actually stays a lot cleaner of snow. Must be that theres more voids to fall out. More pictures at: Gallery |

And curious enough I ended my run dropping the chain on one side. I re-attached it only to drop it again a few minutes later. Sure enough upon close examination I have bent the side plate. Exactly like so many before me... Time to build a brace for this one. I'd order one but as long as the snows around I want it running, not waiting! |

So, what's needed exactly for a good brace? Just a 1/4" Aluminum rod dat's threaded internally so'd you can drill 2 holes to mount it? If it's that simple, I could make a few up & have 'em available for, like, $4.99 shipped: It seems these are needed for the old Blizzards. People could make their own, but obviously they don't until they bend a sideplate! (Maybe it's just Canadians?) I must admit, I like the older bodystyle much better than the DF m'self! Might hafta get one...Chris

The stock brace is a length of alum tube that sits between the plates with threaded holes on either end. Then you screw in long grub screws and the sprocket bolts screw onto it. Looks dorky but it works. Example:

That one's just like my DF's brace: So, what I need to understand is, the older Blizzards didn't have that part I take it? So, if I make braces, do they have to go directly between the drive cogs (As in the pic) & accept a certain screw thread, or do you just drill 2 holes in the sideplates close to the cogs & mount 'em with separate screws? Perhaps more simply put: If I match the braces & make 'em just like the ones in the pic, will that work? (Yes, I'm thick!) Just don't wanna make 'em wrong! I need the guidance of a true Blizzard master, (Preferably Canadian,) to assure flawless parts...Chris |

The brace in your DF300 is the exact brace all the older models need. It can be ordered thru Kyosho but I don't know how much... They are extra long m3 threaded grubs that it uses. I also like that the nitro version has alum braces rather then our plastic versions. I should look into that as well. I don't know if they would be worth your time... If you can order them relatively cheap that is... I'll have to give the part numbers to my lhs on tuesday to find out. |

My own opinion on the subject is I don't like the brace hanging out of the body the way it does. It was an afterthought to add it. Its obviously needed but I would like to try something behind the front body plate instead of in front of it so its hidden... But then would the plates still bend in front of a brace thats been added further back? I don't know... Going to find out tho... |

I just whipped up a chassis brace. Used a bunch of stock TLT parts and a custom length 3mm linkage. When I checked the side plate I didn't think that putting a brace further back would solve anything. It bent right at the very tip of the plate. While this type of brace works I wouldn't recommend it. It replies on the side plate squeezing tight enough to hold the chain tension. The stock brace style is a much better design... But then hey, I don't have a stock brace and this took about 5 minutes to make. And it is working... I checked the electronics this run and the motor was burning hot. Hurt my finger. ESC was cold and the battery was a bit warm (3300) So I am obviously geared too high. The motor is doing it but not liking it. I thought about gearing the pinion down a bit but I have a better option coming. |

Sweet Blizz, OC I love the blazing red. It looks like it melts the snow. How do these do in the sand. We don't get any snow, but we've got lots of sandy beaches

I would imagine just fine. If fact it would be a blast. The sand might jam the drive chains tho maybe? |

Are you asking AGAIN just 'cause we won't give you a straight answer?!? SPAM ALERT!! SPAM ALERT!! Let's see what Outcast finds out as far as if Kyosho has 'em for a fair price: If they're too pricey, I can he'p y'out mebbe. Chris |

According to this its only 11 bucks retail direct from Kyosho... Maybe a few bucks cheaper thru a local lhs... Part number is BL-36 http://www.shopkyosho.com/product/product_id=KYOBL36/410.0 |

Well I had two choices with the motor running hot. Gear down (why'd I want to do that on something this slow already) or I could gear up with the use of a Toy's dual motor plate!!! I'll give you one guess! Its going to take some work to figure out the ratios on this thing, try to find the sweet spot. But try I will!!! I don't have too many 42 pitch dual pinions lying around so I am going to start out with a TLT spur and pinions and go from there... It might be gearing it up a bit much but I won't know until I try it. Stock tranny is 5.06, while the TLT is 3.45. On to the pics! More coming soon! |

Well since I decided I was going to use the SR for this phase of craziness, I installed dual 19 turn motors. One wasn't strong enough, 2 should be. It will be fun trying anyways... The brake system was a bit of a chore to install. I had to raise the battery mount to make it fit. Running this type of system won't work with an older radio so I am throwing in a radio that I can limit the servo travel. I won't need much travel to get the steering to engage this way... |
